Headed down to San Diego and staying in Del Mar here in a few weeks. I've done alot of the bigger breweries down there (Stone, Alesmith, Ballast Point, Coronado, Green Flash, Lost Abbey/Port and Pizza Port), but I'm curious if there are new and amazing breweries that have opened up recently. Also really hoping that they sell growlers for me to bring back home.

    Thoughts?

The answer to your question is "Societe".

True that. It looks like about a 20 minute drive, so that's not too bad. Plus, their beers are top-notch.

Looks like Rough Draft Brewing Co. isn't too far either. I'm not familiar with their beers, but if you are looking for new spots, there's another option.

If it was me, I'd likely opt to stay closeby and set up camp at Solana Beach PP.

There is a new brewery called Culture that is about a block away from the Solana Beach PP. I've yet to try them out.

Culture was the first one I saw when looking around, but reviews seemed "meh" on here.

Im about a 2 mile walk from PP in Solana, so I'll definitely be going there (again).

For those that have been, is Societe better than Culture?

I believe Rip Current and Societe are the new heavy hitters.

    Societe growlers are $$$$ though.

If Culture had 1/5 of the buzz as Societe, you'd see it being discussed here.

    Societe has Alpinish buzz.

How much for your typical growler there?

If they have an Alpinish buzz, I'm pretty much sold on going there.

Societe makes hoppy beers that rival Alpine's. Their RIS, The Butcher, is better than most other stouts in the state. Definitely worth a trip, although their growlers can be spendy.

Very, very spendy - but they are quality growlers.

    $25 stainless steel 2 L growler
$15 for a fill of The Pupil IPA
    $40 total
    Worth every penny.

SS growler sounds pretty awesome. I would definitely be willing to drop the money for one. I can deal with the $40 for the growler/fill. Looking forward to checking this place out.

Not to nitpick, but isn't Pupil is $17?

Culture is a very cool spot. It's close and worth a stop, especially if you do PP Solana.

Societe is off the charts good in my opinion and worth the trip. Just head east on the 56 and it's not that far.

Also start following pizza port Bressi ranch on Facebook since they might be open.

But from Del Mar, if you had one place to hit that's not too far, go to Societe. It's just so good.

I think you mean the 52. Exit Convoy and you're pretty much there.

Yes, the 52 is perfect. That's quicker. 805 to he 52. Get some lunch and an Alpine beer at O'Briens on the way back.

    What's O'Briens?

Looks like the GF now wants to do a day of brewery tours while we are down there. So far it's looking we're going to do Stone, Stone Farms, Societe, Culture, Solona PP and hoping for one or two others.

Beer bar in San Diego, very close to Societe. Definitely worth a stop. They (almost) always have hoppy beers from Alpine and Societe on-tap, as well as a few other gems. Decent bottle list as well.

Saint Archer is a brand new brewery that's right off the 805 and close to Del Mar. I personally haven't been but their beer is ok and the tasting room looks quite nice from the website/facebook photos. Might be worth checking out. Just my $0.02
