Hey guys, I will be headed to Philadelphia in a few weeks to go to an Eagles game, and was just curious if people had any recommendation for package stores or bars in the area that stand-out for beer selection. Thanks all!

Was in Philly about a month ago. The craft beer scene is insane. Try Phillytapfinder.Com

There are no good beer bars or package stores in Philly, and after watching this past Sunday's game, I have my doubts about the eagles as well.

(waits a moment for the flames to die down)

Obviously, the Philly area is teeming with great beer bars, and one of my favorites is just up the road a piece at the South Philly Tap Room. Food there is pasable as well. There are plenty of other outstanding spots as well, but the SPTR is excellent and not too far from the stadium.

I'll let others chime in on the best places to get beer to go, but depending on your timing, I would recommend Hawthornes and Bella Vista dsitributors (case only purchases, but their selection and prices are excellent). Have fun.

I love living in the NW, but I miss the beer scene in Philly/SEPA.

stayed downtown during June and loved it. Local Irish bar had Bourbon County Stout on tap. Could not believe how great Philadelphia was.

    Update: It was Moriarthy's Pub.

if you come from out of state, you'll hate philly bottleshops. Pricey doesn't even begin do describe it. Skip the bottles and enjoy the wonderful tap selection - I've only been here a bit but have already round russian river on tap at a few places.

Unless he can hit a Whole Foods or Wegmans on the way into the city, or heading home. Otherwise, yes, I agree.

Also note worthy are: Cambridge, Bainbridge St Barrel House, standard tap, tria taproom, kyhber for bars; and its outside of the city but Tired Hands in Ardmore is worth the trip

Jose Pistola's... I second that emotion.

OP: Do yourself a favour and park your car somewhere in the city and take the Broad Street subway line to the stadium. It will make for a much better experience, before and after the game, than driving your car to the stadium.

The Passayunk Square area is also becoming great for beer and food and is a bit closer to the stadium if that matters to you. I can vouch for Fountain Porter and Pub on Passayunk East (POPE), and there's some others I haven't been to, plus some great restaurants along Passayunk Ave.

If you have a lot of time though, then it's hard to beat Center City. I'll add Bru Craft and Wurst to the list that's already been put together here.

for anything other than Lagunitas(they have totally dropped the ball in the last year on Lagunitas freshness) And watch out for Great Lakes, they like to play with their Great Lakes cases which usually have a best by of 60 days.
