    Hello everyone,

I am headed to Springfield, Ill this weekend to visit family. I know there isn't much of anything in Springfield but I was wondering if there are any hidden gems beer wise or bottle shops I could check out over there.

    Thanks.

Friar Tuck has a pretty large beer selection. I always stop by there when I'm in Springfield to pick up some Schlafly.

And this brewery just opened. I haven't been there. I also don't believe they're doing to-go stuff yet. Might be worth checking out. I might try to stop by there, since I'm passing through Springfield twice this weekend.

I've been to Obed and Isaacs...very good food too. solid beer.

also Rolling Meadows puts out a solid product...usually only 3 beers, but they sometimes do specialty growlers at the brewery. must call or message them in advance. very cool people.

also there are some solid beers we dont have access to at Friar Tucks on the west side.

Here are the beerfly listings for Springfield. Everyone covered the basics... just watch out for old beer at Friar Tucks & Famous Liquors, they both have a solid selection otherwise. American Harvest is great, although limited hours so check ahead if you go. +1 to Obed & Isaacs and Rolling Meadows.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think I may have to hit up this Friar Tuck's place. Are there any beers I should be on the lookout that I don't get up here in Chicago? Anything from down south perhaps?

Rolling Meadows, Schlafly, and Heavy Seas are about the only thing left Chicago doesn't get... Abe's Ale has shown up before at Whole Foods on Kingsbury though. I wouldn't trust the majority of the shelf imports at Friar Tuck, some are unique but can be years old.

Rolling Meadows does make it up to Chicago now. I've had Abe's Ale, Lincoln Lager and Springfield...something all in bombers. They are all pretty good too.

I visited Engrained one week after it was opened and was very disappointed...Obeb & Isaac's is the better beer spot.

Anyone know where to find Alesmith IPA in Springfield, besides Friar Tucks? They have it, but their bottles are from November. I called them today to inquire about the dates. They acknowledge the IPAs are well past fresh, but said they won't order more until someone buys these. Annoying. So they're willingly selling bad beer. Would love to find some fresh stuff when I drive through next weekend. Any tips? Thanks!

It depends where you're driving through, Bloomington also has a Friar Tucks and Binnys, same with Champaign. Old stock is a problem at most of the big box stores in general, but you might get lucky if you call around. Other option in Springfield is Famous Liquors.

Try a grocery store, I've seen it at Hy-Vee in Peoria before.

Contacted Famous Liquors. They don't have any, but said they will be ordering some, which will be delivered before Friday. Thanks for the tip, emerge!

Soooooooooooooooo, they ordered some Alesmith IPA....and it was four months old. I give up on finding fresh Alesmith IPA.

Definitely hit Obed and Isaacs and if you see the governor tell him he is an asshole.
