Now there's a combo I'd never expect in Munich!

Not unlike something you'd find stateside... lots of ground beef, beans, even some corn. Lightly spicy so I added some house-provided hot sauce. Came with a couple of slices of dark bread... quite enjoyed it!

So, is chili a thing in Germany now? I always worried that if I ever moved I wouldn't find the usual ingredients for a bowl of goodness.

    Trip recap... Day 10 (24SEP25)....

Up to another cloudy day, though a smidge warmer. After BF I found myself on a train heading north. After a short change in Nürnberg I was closing in on Bamberg. Arrived a bit before 11.30... headed towards the old town and I passed Spezial.... was debating a Schnitzel there or a Bamberger Zwiebel at Schlenkerla.... was leaning towards a Schnitzel since I hadn't had one yet. Was going to swing by on my return to the Bahnhof when I noticed the kitchen was closed from 13.45 to 16.45.... opted then and there for a Schnitzel now! Love their old Stube there. Got a half of their rauch lager and a large, tasty Schnitzel. Mmmmm! Out and to the old town. Headed up to the Domplatz and also the Rosengarten. Lovely!! Next stop was Schlenkerla. The side rooms were pretty full, but NBD, as I intended on parking my ass in the Schwemme.... that I did, to the tune of 3 half-litres of their Rauch.... each successive one tasted better than the previous! Ahhhh.....

Ok... took a slow meander back through town to the Bahnhof and set off back to München... arrived about 18.00 and a short S-Bahn ride later I was back at Tap-House. Had the same bartender and he asked "Tölzer Heller Bock"? Great memory! Yes please! Got the chili again and he provided me the hot sauce without prompting! Tasty shtuff!! Last bier was a Frau Gruber Russian Imperial Stout, oddly served in a 0.44l can! Pretty solid, all in all... out of there and back to my flat....

Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit clearer and warmer. If so I may try a hike between some of the southern Biergartens, starting at Wawi, then to Menterschwaige and Hinterbrühl.... we'll see!

    Prost!

I think you'd be fine.... one thing I noticed, not so much in München, but frequently in Amsterdam, Antwerp and Gent, was Burger Bars.... all over... did try a couple and they were pretty good.... though when in Germany I'm all over Würst, Schnitzel and Spätzle....

    Trip recap... Day 11 (25SEP25)....

Well, had hoped to do a Biergarten crawl in the SW part of Munich, but the weather was still cold, cloudy and damp. So, I took the suggestion of a noted beer scribe and hopped a train to Traunstein....

Arrived there around 11.30ish.... walked around the old town a bit, seeing the Hofbräu Traunstein Brewery before settling into their Bräustüberl nearby. Had a couple of 0.33l bottles of their very tasty Bock.... bordered on a DBock, imo.... Out of there and took a swing by the Wochinger Stüberl.... They only had a Helles, Dunkel and Weissbier, so I moved on, being in a Bock mood. Ended up at the third of three Traunstein brewpubs, Schnitzlbaumer. Got a 0.33l of their Bock, which was actually rather hoppy though still tasty. One and done....

Headed the whole 2 minutes back to the Hofbräu Traunstein Bräustüberl.... time for eats! Got yet another Bock along with a Schnitzel Cordon Bleu mit Pommes. It was fan-fucking-tastic!!! What a damn tasty meal!! I'd be back in a heartbeat if it wasn't 70 minutes away! Done there and back to the train to München...

Walked around the Hauptbahnhof area a bit.... Construction of the HBF has been going on for a few years, and doesn't look like it'll finish any time soon.

Hopped the S-Bahn and set up shop at Tap-House once more. Same bartender.... Tölzer Heller Bock? No, not tonight... ended up with a Camba die Therese, another Maibock. Pretty good stuff. And, yes, I did up another bowl of chili! Finished up with two 0.33l bottles of Rittmayer Smoky George, a very tasty Whisky barrel aged Rauchbier. Have had this often in the past, mostly at Hütt'n in Nürnberg...

All for today.... One more day here in Munich before moving on to Benelux....

    Prost!!!

HB Traunstein has one of the very best weiss beers anywhere. It used to be called their Gastro weiss, now they call it Weissbier Spezial Edition. Fantastic beer.

And I'm not a huge fan of Dunkel, but several friends claim HB's is world calss.

    Trip recap... Day 12 (26SEP25)....

Last day in München for this trip.... after BF I headed downtown to search for a 0.5l glass Löwenbräu mug. Why, you ask? Well, on my first trip here back in 1980 I shared a room with a nice guy I had first met in Amsterdam. We trained to Munich together and hung out a bit. We were at the outside Biergarten at Löwenbräu having a couple. He fancied the mug and tried to drop it into his backpack at his feet. He missed and the mug went clanking along the cement, somehow not breaking. The Bier Frau was not amused so we beat a hasty retreat. Dan has never been back here so I'm getting him his long lost Löwenbräu mug.... Walked all around downtown and found zilch! Stopped at the Vik Markt for some Brats.... then headed to The Wiesn...

Looked at most of the souvenir stands there with no luck. WTF? Went into the Löwenbräu tent and was able to purchase one, albeit a 1.0l size. It'll do! Then sat outside at the Augustiner tent for a couple of litres..... All set there and out of The Wiesn for the last time in 2025....

Back to my room where I met my host, Björn. Heading out tonight to see FC Bayern München play Bremen. My first football match in person! First we hit a small brewpub called Brewsli... Had a decent Helles then an IPA. Decent but nothing to write home about.... Then to the U-Bahn to Allianz Arena.... What a zoo on the train and at the stadium! A full house of 75K watched Bayern dominate, a 4-0 win. Loved the experience! Back home via the U, a bit late. Have a 06.47 train to catch in the morn to Maastricht....

Auf Wiedersehen, München! Until next year....

    Prost!
