Heading to Tyson's Corner this upcoming Sunday for 5 days. Wondering if I can get some direction on any breweries to visit, good bottle shops, etc. I will have a car so I can drive a little bit. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks, Dean
Norms beer and Wine in Vienna and Total Wine Mclean are going to be two bottle shops that are close to Tyson's and worth checking out. Not a brewery but check out Lost Dog for lunch. There is one in McLean and a new one in Merrifield that are both close to Tysons. I haven't been to the Mclean location but I go to the Merrifield location a lot(near van dorn metro stop). Their draft list has been really good and the food is usually solid. Mostly sandwiches and pizza. Mad Fox brew pub in Falls church is probably around 15 minutes from Tysons. It is worth checking out. Also close by is Space bar. It is not much to look at and they don't open till 5pm but the draft list is usually really good and worth stopping by since it is so close to Mad fox. Hope this is helpful have a good trip.
I agree with everything above except the Lost Dog in Merrifield is near the Dunn Loring Metro stop, not Van Dorn. Van Dorn is way farther south. The Whole Foods in Vienna (less than 5 min from Norm’s) also has a good bottle selection and you can get drafts/growlers from the counter inside. If you’re willing to drive a little farther check out the Westover Market in Arlington, they have a bar and beer garden as well as a huge bottle selection. There’s also another Lost Dog location across the street from Westover. You are also not that far from DC and if you have the time can easily make a trip into the city, which opens up a ton of other options.
I will re-echo Mad Fox for dinner and beers and Norms for a bottle shop. Just a heads up draft prices seem to be wayyyy more expensive out here than in Ca.
Thanks for the heads up guys. Sounds like I'm going to be doing a lot of beer drinking/shopping while I'm out there.
This. Norm and his employees really know their stuff! And both places have a great selection (though TW is a bit cheaper). Plus if you're into wine, both places have a good selection (possibly of some European wines that might not be as readily available in Cali). And you'll feel right at home. The traffic in NoVA is as bad as many areas of California.
One of my favorite breweries in the NOVA area is Lost Rhino. They are in Ashburn, not exactly around the corner from Tysons but worth the 25 min drive.
