My family and i will be heading down from St Louis area to Destin Florida. On the 24th this month we are first heading to Chattanooga (briefly) then will be traveling to Birmingham via Interstate 59. We are staying over night in Birmingham. Next morning (25th) we will head down to through montgomery then onto destin.

I was wanting to maybe hit a few bottle shops and or interesting/recommended places.

    Any help is appreciated!

Also, if there are any places that are a must see as a family. Let me know them also!

Hop City is a one stop shop. Tons of bottles along with 60 taps and of those 20 taps are local draft brews. They are also building their homebrew supply inventory at the moment as well. Another place to visit and drink that does serve food is J. Clyde (bar/grill). Enjoy and be careful traveling.

Hop city is definitely a good stop. Good people brewery is right down the road. Also some of the wineries (vizini, Morgan creek, etc) are nice and family friendly. Muscadine wine is at all them

Agreed-you can find pretty much any bottle available in Alabama at Hop City. The J. Clyde is a good place to get quality food and beer. If you have a few hours you might want to check out the Civil Rights Museum, the Barbers Motorsports Museum, or the Birmingham Museum of Art. If you only have a little bit of time, I would check out Vulcan-it is the largest cast iron statue in the world and it has good views of the city. All three breweries (Good People, Avondale, Cahaba) have tasting rooms-Good People is my favorite-and Railroad Park next door is nice to stretch your legs. The minor league park-Regions Field- is also next to Good People, but unfortunately the Barons are on a road trip for that date.

Have Fun, Be Safe, and let us know if you need any more information.

Edit: all of this is in reference to the Birmingham area.

Wow thanks for all the great info. I think I'm gonna have to stop by hop city. I would love to stop by the place in Georgia, however it's a bit far off the path.

Now I have to talk the wife I to letting me go to hop city.

If I was staying longer than a quick evening I would bring some perennial beer and drink a few with you guys.

Agree with the Birmingham suggestions; Hop City, J. Clyde, Good People, Avondale, Cahaba etc...

Once you get to Destin check out Chan's Wine World in Destin Commons.

You have to go by Hop City so just make sure your wife understands that and gives u ample time to browse since your mind will be completely blown. J-clyde is good and so is a visit to the breweries as others have mentioned. An new place called Todd's English Pub downtown by the Sheraton is also awesome with tons of stuff on draft. I just went to Destin last weekend and stopped by Chan's, I liked it but Beverage World in Fort O is a much better stop. Being from Illinois though you will most likely already have access to everything they all have but may not be able to still be able to find it on the shelves back home. Good luck and enjoy Bham!

It's in the new " entertainment district" by the Sheraton downtown. They have a lot on draft but unsure on what's truly on and what's out.

The Piggly Wiggly in Homewood and Highland Package Store are also hot spots for picking up bottles.
