So I'm heading to Baton Rouge for my brothers graduation this weekend and I was trying to find some good bottle shops. The best I've found on any trip is Calandro's. I was hoping for a place with a decent bomber selection and some available beers. I'd also like to find a decent beer bar since I'll have plenty of time on my hands. If you have any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!
Calandros will be the best stop. Seems like their selection has increased in qualify and selection in the last year or so, imo. the Cove is a great beer bar. No taps, but a bottle selection riveled by none. The Chimes and The Bulldog are other places to consider. Pretty extensive beer lists and food. Cheers
Calandro's has definitely improved lately, and added a whole new row of craft. It's by far the best in BR, but Matherne's on highland is a decent option if it's closer but check bottle dates. The Cove has also gotten a lot better as well, and they have actually added a new section with about 6 taps really pricey for draft beer though. They do offer 6oz pours though.
The Calandro's on Perkins is by and far the best place in B.R. Other options that aren't as good are Marcello's Wine Market on Perkins, Martin's Wine Cellar on Perkins, the Whole Foods on Corporate and both Matherne's. The Cove has the best beer bottles and The Bulldog has the best taps followed closely by Chimes. The Chimes has a real restaurant while The Bulldog is more of a bar with some good food.
IMO Calandro's on Perkins followed by Marcello's is your only options. The Cove has the largest selection of beers that aren't really that good. They should call themselves Mikkellers since that is about 50% of their inventory. Each time I go there I find myself struggling what to give into then the bartenders are usually douches. Besides that they are awesome! Bulldog will have a better selection. Not as many beers but better selection and atmosphere for sure. Wednesday you get to keep as many glasses as you drink. Plus they have food. Chimes is definitely the spot if you want beer and food by a long shot
