This is true in every town with a team (10 of them). Eldridge Field in Orleans and Lowell Park in Cotuit are my two favorites - Orleans has great grassy terraces down the right field line and plays night games, while Cotuit is a little gem of a park cut out of the scrub pines just off the water and plays most games at 4 or 5 pm (no lights). Veterans Field in Chatham is also great, but often very crowded and occasionally foggy.

The best college players in the country play on the Cape, they play with wood bats, and the MLB scouts come in droves to watch players like Buster Posey, Jacoby Ellsbury, Josh Donaldson, and Todd Frazier, to name just a few of the hundreds of current major leaguers who played there. All they ask of you is a $2-$3 donation and buying a 50/50 raffle ticket.

That said, definitely do not BYOB to these games - they are decidedly family affairs.

I was pointing out Hyannis for slipperybrain, but I agree that all the venues are great. I think the league is a gem that doesn't get the hype it should.

Where exactly are you looking for it to be hyped? I think it is perfect as is with the chill environment and no ticketing

It is great and certainly chill, but when people talk about the Cape they almost never mention it. They have a chance to sit 10 feet away from the stars of the future (as ommegoodness mentioned), sometimes close enough to hear the ball in the air. You can't get that anywhere else, but when you ask people about their Cape trips you don't often hear them mention it. You hear more about the Black Dog and Mad Martha's than you do about baseball.

I'm not looking for it to be hyped per se, but it is an overlooked gem.

You are both right. CCBL is not the first thing most people talk about on the Cape in the summer, and it is great the way it is. My dad grew up going to these games back when they were a mix of college kids and local semi-pros, and I built my summer vacations around how many games I could attend and how many autographs I could collect when I was 12 (13 consecutive nights on a 2 week vacation!), but it's obviously not quite the same obsession for everyone as, say, ice cream. That said, go to Chatham, Orleans, or Falmouth for a night game in July and you will surely not come away thinking the league is underpublicized.

There are blankets and chairs out in Orleans way before noon saving seats for the night game. It's honestly always scared me away from going there for a game as I drive to and from Nauset Beach. Been to many Cape games and it is a fantastic time. Watch your little ones as there is very little protection from balls other than inside the bases. I have home run balls from both Buster Posey and Gordon Beckham from the year they (and several other now major leaguers) one the championship for Y-D (played at Dennis Yarmouth High School).

I know ... and Beckham was dominant that summer. Led the Cape in homers ... Posey was no slouch of course.

Don't mean to hijack this thread with another question, but I'll be visiting the cape from Saturday through Thursday, and it's the first time I've visited since entering the world of craft beer. Excited to try Devils Purse and to finally visit CCB.

Doesn't seem like there's a ton of craft options at most places, so does anyone have any recommendations for BYOB places in the Yarmouth/Hyannis area? Or are some/most/no seafood shacks cool with bringing your own beers? Moby Dick's seems cool, but it's a bit out of the way.

    Cheers!

I think it's been mentioned above (and unfortunately in Dennis so not perfect) but Sesuit Harbor Cafe is great byob place.

Devil's Purse is 12-6 Saturday so depending on arrival time, you may have to look for it in bars. Their website says where they have sent kegs, but no guarantee it is on when you get there.

Dennis isn't too bad. Looks like Sesuit is about 15 mins from where I'm staying. And I'm hoping to be in the area by early afternoon so I can hit Devils Purse on Sat.

    Thanks for the tip.

My second job is at friends market in Orleans. We have a decent selection. (Shameless plug) but otherwise Check out windmill right by stop and shop they have a good selection for the area. The little package store across from the shell and next to the Chinese place in Eastham has a small but decent craft selection as well

Moonshine beer and win in Hyannis has a very nice selection right now. I was there a couple hours back. They had a bunch of Brewmaster Jack DIPAs available. Some other gems as well. Stringly suggest it.

Luke's Liquors are extremely solid, though check out your born on's.

In Patriots square in Dennisport - between Stop n Shop & Marshalls - there's an excellent craft beer store. Sorry can't help with the name.

Cape Cod, Cisco (personal fave) and Offshore are solid options.

Cisco Whales Tail Pale Ale and Chowder during a Sox game at the Hot Stove Saloon in Harwichport will not suck.

We just got back from the Cape and we had a great time. I really wanted to get to a baseball game but my wife had other ideas. We almost went one night, but we just got too busy. I thought Moonshine Liquors had an awesome selection and the guys there helped with my selections. Got some stuff from. CBC, Mystic, Pretty Things, and Foley Brothers from VT. They did have a good Cisco selectio, Jacks Abbey, and Brewmaster Jack DIPA and paddy mentioned.

We went to Cape Cod Beer and everything was decent. I really enjoyed their Porter. We also went to Devil's Purse and that was well worth the visit. The guys were great and I enjoyed all their beers. They had a couple of IPA's, ESB, and a few others, worth the trip. I would have stayed longer but there was no public bathroom and my wife is pregnant.

We also went to PTown and hit up the Nor'East Beer Garden which was nice. In Hyannis, Naked Oyster had great food and they had Devil's Purse ESB on tap. Black Kat had great Chowder and CCB on tap. We also went to The Skipper in Yarmouth but I can't remember what was on tap there. Bomber prices are very reasonable in MA, much better than PA, but be prepared to pay $7-8 for a pint in the restaurants.

If you get a chance, I would also recommend a day trip to Nantucket and visit Cisco. Their island beer is much better than what they sell to the public in stores.

How awesome would it be to watch a CCBL game on the hill in Chatham while drinking a can of Heady on a July night, without getting arrested for an open container? BYOB Cape league baseball, the stuff of dreams
