. . . and am staying on North Park Drive. I'd like to stick to walking distance and subway (or L train as its called) options for some fine local stuff. Any recommendations? I like pizza and hot dogs too. Thanks.
You can get anywhere in the city area easily via the L. I'd suggest searching for the many other discussions around here about Chicago since you won't be limited to anything in particular.
The L is technically the entire train line (not just the subway portion), and a lot of people use "El" for the elevated portion, fyi. Either way, if you're fine taking the train everywhere (I'm assuming you don't just want to use the subway), you can check this out: http://www.thrillist.com/drink/chicago/chicago-s-first-cta-bar-map-thrillist-chicago Your closest "best" stop might be the Binny's on Grand. However, I'd recommend taking one of the various CTA options to the North/Clybourn area (red line stop; Armitage if you're taking the Brown Line El) and checking out the Lincoln Park Binny's and Goose Island Clybourn. That's a fantastic one-two punch. Either way though, as you can tell by the above map, you can pretty much bathe in beer just via the CTA.
If you are looking for places to hang out that have good beer and food my favorites are Revolution Brewing on Milwaukee, The Bad Apple on Lincoln, and The Fountainhead on Damen and Montrose. They are all close to train stops. Recently I was at Fountainhead and they had on tap Founders Imperial Stout, Perennial Abraxis, and Surly Darkness not to mention about a dozen other good beers. It was hard to pick which one to drink!
I frequent Chicago a few times a year and always want new places to go, so instead of starting a new thread or searching (because I'm lazy) I wait for these lol
