The wife and I are heading to Denver the second week of May. We are staying downtown at the Oxford hotel, so we plan on hitting up the breweries that are close. Are there any must hit breweries or bars to hit up? Would also love some recommendations on places to eat or anything must do while in town. Also, if anyone has some tips on good disc golf courses that are must play, it is much appreciated.

Off the top of my head:

    Great Divide
    River North
    Crooked Stave
Witts End (may have to search for this one but its worth it) and Colorado Cider Co. (Across the street from Witts End - palate cleanser)
Strange Craft and Breckenridge (mile away from Witts End)
    Denver Beer Co.
Bull & Bush (probably 15 min drive outside of Downtown)
    Copper Kettle

These are a few and should be enough to keep you a bit busy. There are more that you will very likely run across around town.

Another place i'd recommend checking out is the Falling Rock Tap House near Coors Field. Forget teh Yard House, this is definitely a MUST for beer fans. Also worth dipping into 1-Up next door for some arcade action. Another fun bar is Double Daughters.

As for grub: Can't say enough good things about Euclid Hall. Good beer selection and really good food. There's also the Buckhorn Exchange for a fun, historic, place. Good steaks as well....hell, it's Denver's oldest restaurant and has been around for some 120+ years.

Also fun places to eat (casual) The Butcher's Bistro, Biker Jims, Table 6 (a bit outside of town), Osteria Marco, Work and Class...

Nicer options: Jax Fish House, Fruition, Tag, Rioja, Brazen and Tables.

As for sights....it's Denver! Some great people, beautiful scenery and great breweries. Maybe grab a couple of "rock-pile" seats at Coors field and catch a ballgame! If you can get out of town, would recommend Boulder and stopping by Avery!

    Hope this helps!

    Dan

I like Dan's food options, but I don't know if I'd agree with some of the breweries... if I'm in town for a weekend and I wanna hit Denver's MUST-GO-TO places, I sure as shit ain't telling anyone to go to Breckenridge Brewing or Denver Beer Co (PLEASE DON'T SUE ME!!!)...

    Peep this: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/denver-recommendations-needed.80795/

Also if you're gonna be in SE Denver for any reason check out Comrade Brewing (Iliff and Quebec)

I'd recommend going to Breckenridge (the 471 location) if you're a big fan of BBQ. Otherwise, not so much these days.

Truth. That food is legit. The beer is nothing special.

Personally, while Breckenridge is certainly hit/miss, they still put out some of decent beers (471/BA 72, etc.). And Denver Beer Company had a few worth trying last time I was there but do certainly has their misses...neither are places I refuse to go to when I'm running around Denver. One man's trash.... When I hit new town's I like to hit everything...both the good and the sometimes mediocre.

Will vouch for Comrade and can't believe I didn't mention Diebolt. Black Shirt is also worth looking into and has been pretty decent the times I've been there.

Also, check out the Cheeky Monk on Colfax if you're in the mood for some Belgium goodness (they also have a respectable domestic representation as well) and some decent munchies. And, if you decide to make the trek (as most seem to) to the domestic behemoth that is Coors in Golden, search out Golden City Brewing, Golden's 2nd largest brewery (it's run out of a converted house). Really good people.

Enjoy the city...it's a killer place!

I used to be a fan of Breck (yup, their normal beers) but I feel they've had major QC issues in the last 18-24 months. They also don't seem to respond to e-mail or even face-to-face inquiries as to their issues. As a result, I'd say to go for the BBQ and hope for the best beer-wise. Renegade's within walking distance - order beers there instead.

If you have a car definitely hit Comrade

For food and good beer, go to Freshcraft which is like 2-3 blocks from your hotel. Also Hops and Pie for the same, but be prepared to possibly wait, it gets crowded. Block and Larder right down the street for H&P also has excellent food and a good beer list (same guys as Freshcraft, more food focused than beer, but still a good selection).

Falling Rock downtown will have the biggest and best tap selection.

Skip Denver Beer Co, unless you like breweries that think they own the name of the city they are in and will sue you

But from a fellow Wisconsinite, you should be coming out in November when the Packers are in town

Everything on you list is garbage except CS and RN no offense. Check out station 26, comrade, Hogshead. If u have a car head to Boulder and Fort Collins. Few new breweries opened up in River North might worth your while... I personally think they're ok but better than Strange, DBC, etc. Mockery and Ratio. I used to to work at Hops & Pie great food & staff... shitty owners. Fresh Craft awesome. Falling Rock considered best craft beer bar in but they don't clean their lines so beers can taste off so just beware and staff is shitty. Breck blows they have few bars throughout denver. Euclid hall not bad. If you can get to south Broadway few decent breweries like Baere. Just my opinion

The Bull & Bush has probably won more awards than any other brewery in CO...or at least they're on par with Dry Dock. If you're truly interested in hitting the full-on best places in town (and have access to a car), the B&B and Dry Dock have the most hardware. Comrade is a very easy 3rd stop on that side of town and Station 26 isn't far either.
Hogshead makes for a good pairing with Hops & Pie if you're West of I25 in the Highlands area.

Toss some discs at Paco Sanchez in Dry Gulch park. Its a pretty nice course but is kind of long, so it takes a while to play through the whole thing.
You can hit up Wits End, Strange, or Hogshead fairly easily after you're done.

If I was coming in from out of town and had a few days to check out the best of the best of Denver, this is EXACTLY the list I would come up too... in no order: Comrade, Hogshead, Station 26, Dry Dock, Crooked Stave and Bull & Bush. You're gonna get solid-to-amazing beers at all 6 of those places with NOTHING mediocre. Also if you have the time I'd go out to Golden for Cannonball Creek/Mountain Toad.

...oh be sure to stop by Zephyr. Super amazing. You'll love it. Just tops! [INSERT WINKY FACE TO INDICATE I'M TOTALLY JOKING AND DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME]

If you do decide to make it to Golden, you could spend a solid few hours hitting Cannonball Creek (best beer in town), Mountain Toad (best outdoor space), Golden City Brewery (good outdoor space and great location) and Barrels & Bottles (6-10 of their own beers, 10-15 guest taps and wine). Birds Nest disc park is 10 minutes away in Arvada or you can go hiking as there are lots of trails in and around Golden. You can hit 2 breweries, play a round or go for a hike and swing back through for the other two breweries. B&B serves food and the other 3 have food trucks when they're open.

I have heard nothing but great things about Cannonball Creek, and the brewer also has a Wisconsin connection, so despite not having visited myself yet I say check that one out too

Rent a car and head up to Avery. The food and taproom exclusive beers are worth the trip.

Another recommendation I'd give is to check out Union Station. Terminal Bar has a solid tap list in one of the coolest settings in town, Snooze is awesome for brunch, The Kitchen Next Door and Stoic & Genuine are great dinner options.

For disc golf, try Bird's Nest in Arvada. Long playing course with some challenging shots and not too far off the beaten path, especially if you're going to Golden. Johnny Roberts used to be a fun course, but the redesign has left it about as fun and challenging as the kiddy kourse at a Putt-Putt. Or, if you feel like coming down to the 'Ranch to shop for bottles, there's a decent little course half a block from Davidsons that I hit at lunchtime a couple of times a week.
Shame it's not summer... you could go up the hill and play the course at Conifer... one of my favorites for sure.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I will have a car so getting around won't be hard. Any good bottle shops I should check out? Would like to fill the trunk if I can.
