I'm making the trip for work next week. I checked out threads on the area and have a few questions for the BA'ers in the area. * Is Surly Darkness available in bottles currently? * Does anything from New Glarus hit Duluth, or am I just better off driving to Superior Wisconsin for NG bottles? * Any recommendations for a good area restaurant that has craft beer? Thanks for any info, and Cheers!
No Darkness. No New Glarus in MN, you can get it at Keyport in Superior. Thirsty Pagen in Superior is great, Duluth Grill is great too but no beer but Bent Paddle is nearby.
I ate at Tycoon's the last time I was there. They serve Fitger's Brewhouse beer. The food was decent, but the barrel aged barleywine was great.
Endion Station just opened in a 100 yr old railway station right on lake superior owned by fitgers and as others have said thirsty pagan is a great stop for pizza and brew then go to Keyport for NG brews
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm staying right off 53 by the airport, so Duluth Grill & Bent Paddle is perfect for one night. The second night I think I'll head over the bridge to Superior to shop and check out Thirsty Pagan.
About 5 minutes from the airport is Warehouse Liquor. Pick up some Borealis bottles if you are into Belgian style beers.
Probably no place better for food and beer than Fitger's Brewhouse downtown on Superior street. Try the wild rice burger, you won't be disappointed.
Lake Avenue Cafe, in the Canal area, is very good. They serve 750 ml of Borealis Fermentary from nearby Two Harbors....highly recommend.
Also if you are in the Canal Park area I would Recommend the Northern Waters Smokehaus. Just a little Deli type counter, but the sandwiches are amazing (as is the smoked aslmon, meats, and charcuterie). A great stop for lunch.
Duluth now allows tap rooms to be open on Sunday (no growler sales per asinine MN state laws). Not sure if any breweries have opted to open yet: http://www.fox21online.com/news/article/duluth-allows-sunday-liquor-sales-taprooms
