And the above 2 are brewpubs, not actual bottling breweries, so strictly speaking, there are 3 breweries left in Regensburg.

I am all for meeting up and enjoying some beers, biking around Bamberg is also great fun! Though as it is a tour I guess that will not be possible?

    cheers

That's right in the middle of school break, so I'll most likely be visiting family in the States. Have fun in Miltenberg!

Anything is possible. It's small group and there's free time. So I take it you're in Bamberg?

Our airline tickets were purchased last week. We're now committed!

We're still looking for people to join us on the Bamberg portion of the trip:

And we'll be happy to meet up with anyone on the other parts of the trip.

It's likely that, once again, the Bamberg tour we had signed up for will not happen. There's just not enough beer geeks that are interested in Bamberg. Stu has no problem filling his Belgian tours, but Bamberg is a tough sell. But it's not surprising based on the American beer scene's infatuation with beers that are in your face. Subtle just doesn't make it.

Anyhow, it's not a big deal. We'll figure out our own itinerary for those days. We'll probably try to do most of what the tour would have done. If any one wants to meet up in Bamberg or the environs (or anywhere on our trip) for a beer or two, let me know.

I'm thinking about going to the kellers at Kreuzberg near Hallendorf. It looks like the best way is to take the train to Forchheim and pick up the Keller Express (Bus 265). I'm a little unclear on this though. I'm thinking that I get this bus at the Forchhein train station. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

Oof, I was actually kinda interested, but the price for the tour is a bit steep. Certainly looking at what you get I suppose it's not unreasonable, but yeah I'd probably have to go self guided. I've been meaning to make a trip down there anyway, and this kind of prompted me to see what the ticket prices would be.

Seems it's about €25 each way, and about a four hour train ride. Not too bad, I might have to look into a weekend trip down there in the near future.

I will see if I can make it down for a few beers:slight_smile:
I agree, I found the price insanely steep, even for what you got. However, that could be the comfort of living here and knowing my way about.

    cheers

If you (or @digita7693 or any of our German contingent) live within local trains of Bamberg, Deutsche Bahn offers a "Schönes Wochenede Ticket" that costs about €40 but is valid for up to five adults for one full day. Bamberg was 3.5 hours away from me in Heidelberg and sometimes I could convince some friends to go down for a day trip. It's a long day, but worth doing every once in a while.

I have used it a few times in the past, but for 4hr or so trips, I will just book in advance, use my Bahncard, take the ICE and get their and back a lot quicker:slight_smile: ICE from Köln to Brussels, 1hr 50mins:slight_smile:

Yes, part of my reasoning was that I only had one real option to Bamberg anyway, which was the Regional Bahn system. But it is a useful option for those who might not be in the know. HD to Düsseldorf, on the other hand, was always plan ahead + BahnCard + ICE = Altbier!

Yeah they're nice sometimes, but yeah, I'd prefer to save myself the time and take an ICE train, at the very least for part of the way. It turns into something like an 8 hour trip when you rely only on regional trains, since I'm way up in Bremen. So yeah, I'm on the plan ahead + BahnCard + ICE plan.

When I lived in Berlin the Schönes Wochenende was a nice way to get a group to Leipzig.

    Come on down!

Yeah the tour is a but pricey, but if it goes, it would be a small group (6-8), that commands a premium. I don't have any interest in a group of 30 people. We did our last trip on our own http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/heading-to-germany.113333/ As I mentioned, we just thought the Bierkellers would be more fun in a small group. But we'll have fun anyway. Hopefully we can get together,
