This was Reverso.net translation. I'm very proud that I was able to communicate entirely in German in a couple of situations this week. Probably very poor German but I did get my message across.

We have left Miltenberg and went to Regensburg. Very lovely city. We took a city tour and had dinner at Kneitinger. Their Bock and Dunkel are fantastic. The Bock was one of the best I've ever had. Yesterday morning we left to go to Bamberg. Since we had to change trains in Nürnberg we decided to stash our bags and get lunch. We went to the Hausbrauerei Altstadt. The wurst was great. We also found the hotel serving Andechs and had a beer there. After arriving in Bamberg we stopped at Spezial and Schenkerla. Heading back to the hotel, wee passed Fâssla, which just happened to be having their Bockbieranstich. Had to have one although it was probably one too many.

More later. I will post pics when I get home.

Kneitinger is a great brewery that often gets overlooked. Lovely brewery tap, too.

Knowing the sort of people you find in Fässla at 9 AM, I'd love to see their Bockbieranstich. I have a feeling I'd feel right at home.

I dunno. I went to the Faessla 350 year anniversary celebration -- where they were selling a Mass for DM3.50 -- and even I was shocked at the clientele. When they started playing Wolfgang Petry, and the crowd started "dancing," I knew it was time to go! Still, got to keep the cool Masskrug.

You were in Regensburg a full day and you only hit 1 of the 5 brewing spots even though all 5 are within less than 10 minutes from the Cathedral ?!?! :astonished:

Kneitinger is still my all time favorite Pils I've ever had, though it was only in a bottle.

Also, having stayed a night at Fäßle's inn, I saw the types at 8 am when we went to breakfast. "Savory," as in "well marinated," is how I would describe the old guys who populate the place in the mornings and evenings.

No, also hit Spital. We had lunch at the Wusrtküche and had the Jakob bier. I only mentioned Kneitinger because it was so good!

Yesterday we rented bikes and rode to Memmelsdorf and Merkendorf hitting four breweries along the way. We had a nice talk with the brewer at Drei Kronen and lunch at Wagner. Hummel is my idea of what a small local brauerei should be.

In the evening, we went to Klosterbrau for their Bockbieranstich. We found a spot in the upstairs room and enjoyed several Bocks.

Today we ventured out to Weißenohe and did the Fünf Seidla Steig. We had a bit of trouble finding the start of the trail but once we did, we managed to get to all five brauereis. We liked the biers at Hoffmann the best. A fun day, but maybe a bit too far to go from Bamberg.

We really enjoyed our little adventures and the chance to see parts of Germany most tourists never see.

Tomorrow, Griefenklau and zum Sonne's Bockbieranstich.

Voll neidisch! Hummel is indeed great. Did you have their Rauchbier? Any favorite beers so far?

Keep in mind that Greifenklau is only open until 2 pm Sundays. Still, great little brunch spot. Prost!

Yeah, the brewer at Drei Kronen (Herr Straub) is a good egg... Chatted with him on my visit a few years ago.... Their Rauch was nice, and the Käsespätzle was killer..... How did you like Höhn, if you went?

    Prosit!

Favorite bees, Faust Schwarzviertler, Kneitinger Bock and Dunkel, Kolsterbrau Bock, Hoffmann Dunkel.

My wife had the Hummel Rauchbier and I tasted hers. It was good. We are thinking of going back there tomorrow for lunch.

We stopped at Höhn on our way back thru Memmelsdorf. It was too new inside! The beer was good but nothing special. I understand that the brewery is wood fired. I may have to try and see the brewery.

We finished our stay in Bamberg. On Sunday we had lunch at Griefenklau. We forgot about the time change and arrived an hour before we had planned to. It was worth going to but there are better places in Bamberg. Since we were finished with lunch an hour earlier than planned, we ventured back to Klosterbrau so I could try the Braunbier. Very good! My wife had the "Hefe Braun." She liked it so much that she wants me to try and brew it. I'm thinking a standard Hefe with Munich replacing much of the Pils malt and a touch of crystal fermented at a temp the inhibits the banana esters.

That evening we took the bus out to zur Sonne. I was expecting a Bockbieranstich, but the place was quiet. We stayed for dinner. The food was excellent and the Hell was very good.

We finished the night at Cafe Abseits. It was okay, but I'd rather drink at the Brauereis.

Monday included Mahrs and Keesmann. I liked the tap at Mahrs quite a bit and thought the U was good, but my wife is much more sensitive to diacetyl than I am and didn't care for the beers. We ventured over to Keesmann and had dinner. The Herrin Pils was very good as was the Sternla. We finished the night at Spezial. We were there three times. Definitely our pub of choice!

Today was traveling. First to Köln to visit the Dom. Malzmuehle for lunch and a couple beers at Fruh. Finally on to Dusseldorf and Schumacher for dinner. Since our last visit here, I've brewed several Alts and wanted to compare mine to the real thing. My malt profile is close but their's is more bitter and crisper. The bitter part is easy, the crispness I have to think about.

Tomorrow is our last day before flying home on Thursday.

I forgot to mention the reason zur Sonne was dead was that the Bockbieranstich had been the night before. I'm guessing that somewhere along the line I picked up last year's date. Oh well, it was still worth the trip.

I felt that the best thing about Greifenklau was the view. It's quite the trek up that hill, though. Of the breweries in town, theirs has the closest thing to a large Munich-style biergarten. I can imagine their Lagerbier might be a favorite for some folks, though.
Your wife isn't the first person to get diacetyl from Mahrs' U. Bill Eye (from Prost) told me he got it the last time he was there. I'm usually a butter-tasting fanatic, but I've never tasted any. I think that would crush me as it's one of my favorite beers on the planet. Having that beer and Herren Pils 50 yards apart = win.
