Like the title says, we will be at Gulf Shores for a week pretty soon. Are there any breweries, bottle shops or exceptional local beers that I should look for? We'll have both Sons, Both of the DIL's and all of the Grandkids. The plan for the week mostly will center around the beach or the pool at the condo. We will have transportation so we can travel a little. Suggestions on any other points of interest would be welcome too! Thanks
Are you driving there from Arkansas? If so just stop in Louisiana and buy a case or two of Ghost in the Machine, drink that until your taste buds are shot and then ease into your favorite adjunct lager. There isn't anything worth much in Gulf Shores outside of tourist nonsense anyway.
Yes, we will be driving. Stopping in Louisiana is a good idea! I was really hoping that Cigar City distributed to that part of Alabama.
Big Beach Brewing is in Gulf Shores and they have some pretty good beers, though not exceptional. Otherwise, yeah, I haven't found much in the area as far as good bottle shops and what not. Two other recommendations... 1) If you do stop in LA, Parish's RĂªve is an absolutely phenomenal coffee stout and is a shelfie along with their current seasonal Bloom which is a wonderful IPA that is under the radar only because it lives in Ghost's shadow. 2) I'm not sure how you're driving down but if your travels bring you through Hattiesburg, MS (off Highway 98 and Interstate 59), stop by Southern Prohibition, the best brewery in Mississippi in my opinion.
Thanks for the replys everyone. Yes, we'll go down through Hattiesburg. I will keep Southern Prohibition in mind. Having Parish and Cigar City possibly available will save me from hauling my own. We will be able to travel a little so a trip to Mobil or Orange Beach is possible, if necessary. With the Wife and 2 Granddaughters traveling with us I expect space to be at a premium!
SoPro is my jam, highly recommend you even just stopping by for a flight. Other than that, I got stuck on parish but if you happen to run across any of the more select Great Raft stuff while you're in LA that is always solid too. It'd be in a 16 ounce can. Also, Jucifer by Gnarley Barley is a really highly thought of LA local and a staple in fridges down here given price point (9.99 for 6). Passing through Mobile on I-10 you could swing by Cottage Hill Package Store (5-10 minutes from interstate). Really great selection and a lot of the really solid stuff from the area. Trim Tab would be the AL brewery to seek out if it were me and they have a good bit of their beers.
Thanks to all of you guys for your replys. We are here! Parish, Trim Tab and Cigar City all distribute here and the local grocery stores have a nice selection at a decent price and its fairly fresh! We plan to cook most of our meals and hang around the condo and the beach mostly but the Wife and I may get bored and venture out one day. If we hit a brewery or a restaurant or two I'll make another post. Later You'all
