for the Wisconsin Craft Beer Fest and i am planning on hitting Discount on Oklahoma. Are there any local releases i should be looking for?
Grab a bomber of Black Husky: Sproose (IPA) and Sparkly Eyes (DIPA), if they're around. Both are excellent. I also really like O'so: Convenient Distraction, MKE Brewing: O-Gii, and Karben4: Fantasy Factory. Also take a look at the bombers from Mobcraft and see if any interest you. It's a super unique brewery we have in Madison (soon Milwaukee). Otherwise New Glarus, Central Waters, Tyranena, and 3 Sheeps all will have excellent beers on the shelves right now. It might actually be worth hitting up the beer fest first, try a bunch of stuff from the WI breweries, and then hunt down the stuff you liked best. You could also check Wine Thief at the Milwaukee Market, since you'll be right down the road from there for the beer fest. They'll have several of the bottles that I listed above.
I strongly second the Sparkly Eyes and Fantasy Factory. I'm sure they're sold out of Toppling Goliath's PseudoSue, but they may still have Lightspeed (unsure if Pompeii or Smoove Opferator are hanging around). If you're a pumpkin fan, then New Glarus's Pumpkin Pie Lust (actually made without any pumpkin) and Point Brewing's Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale would be good. Other New Glarus beers are sure to be readily available. Check them out and see if any seem up your alley. Just make sure to check bottle dates to be sure you're getting the best fresh releases. You can also tweet at them to see about supply.
Good call on the pumpkin beers. Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale and Lakefront Brandy-Barrel Imperial Pumpkin Ale are two of the best pumpkin brews in the country. A few bars in the area even have the brandy and bourbon variants of the Whole Hog on tap.
Woodman's in Kenosha still had imperial pumpkin on Saturday. CW headless heron is a good one, good price too
