I live in Indy, what should I look for in SC that I shouldn't pass up? All help is appreciated!! I plan on stopping by the Piggly Wiggly the second I get in town, BTW.
Yeah, I posted in that forum before a recent trip to Charleston and got a few responses. I guess a lot of Piggly Wigglys have growler filling stations now, so bring some glass. Coast Brewing and Westbrook were 2 breweries in Charleston that I was impressed with. If Boy King from Coast is still around, get that.
And according to seekabrew, the things that SC gets that you don't in IN is: Allagash Anderson Valley Avery Ballast Point Bear Republic Bottle Tree Caldera Cascade (Raccoon Lodge) Cigar City Cisco Clown Shoes COAST Brewing Co. D.L. Geary's Dogfish Head Duck-Rabbit Flying Fish Foothills Full Sail Gordon Biersch Green Flash Highland Iron City Lagunitas Lake Placid Laughing Dog Oskar Blues Pike Red Brick (formerly Atlanta Brewing) RJ Rockers Smuttynose Speakeasy Starr Hill Stillwater Sweetwater Terrapin Thomas Creek Uinta Westbrook Weyerbacher Williamsburg AleWerks Yuengling Hope that helps
If you are driving down there and you get anywhere close to Wilmington, NC, definitely drive into town and go to Cape Fear Wine and Beer. It is absolutely fantastic. I cannot emphasize that enough. There are numerous reviews on this site which will substantiate that claim.
Thanks for the info gents!! Here is what is on tap at Piggly-not bad. Does anyone know how much they charge for a refill?($10-$15?) Tart LycheeNew BelgiumAmerican Wild Ale7.5% . Allagash Saison MimhAllagashSaison/Farmhouse Ale8.0% . HopzillaTerrapinImperial IPA10.8% . Really Old Brown Dog AleSmuttynoseOld Ale10.0% .
almost anything from Terrapin, also COAST (charleston) and holy city (charleston), oh and I always pick up dale's pale ale since I can't get that in ohio too.
Saw a picture from the Market Commons store, and the prices on the growler fills at that time was between 10-15 bucks. I saw a picture from another Piggly that had Allagash Curieux available for 23.99. I figure it depends on the beer, but I don't see any of those 4 being that high. I hope the Tart Lychee stays on tap until we get there. I want to try it, and a growler to bring home to share would be sweet.
