Not really my choice of a New Year's destination, but that's where my wife's family chose to meet up over the New Year Holiday. Will be stopping through Asheville NC on the way down, but don't know too much about the beer culture in SC. My brother in law and I will be looking for some road trips and places to pick up some bottles around the Myrtle Beach area. If anyone is up for some trades, can bring along lots of Midwest goodies from MI, and IN. Thanks for any help or advice.

There have been other 'Myrtle Beach' threads on here, but the best place to go is the Piggly Wiggly grocery store at Market Common off of highway 17. You will not be disappointed! Charleston is about 2 hours away and I would suggest going to Westbrook and COAST breweries, along with hitting up the Charleston Beer Exchange and/or Total Wine.

Thanks. Forgot about Westbrook and have had a few Coast as well. This gives me a great place to start.

The Pig for take out, but unless you have a day or so Charleston is a very long day. Pig has a great growler station, and all that call it a day unless your there for 3-4 days. It is a family vacation and any real travel isn't worth the trouble imo.

Definitely hit up the Pig for bottles and growlers. They get the full lineup of Westbrook and COAST. I'm not doing much trading these days, but maybe some other MB folks would be up for it. If you get the time, I definitely recommend a trip to New South Brewing for their tour/tasting room/growler fills - they just put a rum barrel Oktoberfest on tap - that I am excited to try. They are open Tues, Thurs and Fridays - but definitely check their hours over the holidays.

I'll be there from Dec 29 - Jan 1 so think I'll try to make the road trip with my brother in law. I'm not familiar with growler fills at grocery stores. How does that work. Can I bring my own growlers from other breweries? last think I need is 5 more growlers.

Yes, every place I've been to in MB will refill any screw-top growler. Just not the swing-top.

Any chance Terrapin French Toasted WnB is still around?

Just read on Beer Pulse that more was released into distribution, but maybe that has all been sold out in a day as well.

Just found out that we are actually staying in North Myrtle Beach. Is the Piggly Wiggly still pretty close or do I have to travel the 15 some miles to Myrtle Beach? How about other places to have a pint?

    Thanks,

From N myrtle to the pig you're probably looking at close to 30min drive time max with traffic.

A new Mellow Mushroom just opened in North Myrtle in September - they have around 60 taps, plus some bottles/cans. They had BCBS on tap for like 2-3 weeks. Hell, it may still be on.

Just got back from MB. The Green's in Myrtle Beach had MooHooChiato, but no French Toast WNB. Lots of Nightmare on Brett and Crooked Stave in stock. I think I got the last of the Cold Mountain. Good luck.

Had a great time at New South. They got bombed today on the tour with people which both Rod and Dave said was very unusual for this time of year, but did get a brief chance to chat with them. The bourbon Lily and rum Oct were both amazing and the rest of the lineup was really solid. Unfortunately, even with directions from Rod, never found the right Piggly. Found another one to pick up groceries on 17 that was less than stellar. Did stop at another bottle shop and was amused to find Bell's Expedition Stout for sale at the growler station. Being from Kalamazoo, this is one of my absolute favorite beers. Did find some Westbrook 4th anniversary bombers and Moo Hoo stout, but not much else. Will continue my quest tomorrow.

Since tomorrow is our last day and supposed to be family day, probably won't make it back down to Myrtle Beach. Is there any place at all in N. Myrtle Beach to find any CCB, Foothills, Terrapin, COAST, or anything else from the area?

Yes, definitely the best spot in NMB is Pavillion Discount Bev. It's at 1301 Hwy. 17 SOUTH - across from the Krispy Kreme. They get most of the COAST stuff, along with Westbrook, and other regional breweries. CCB doesn't distribute yet to SC.

Bummer about CCB, but was hoping. Will venture out to see what I can find today.
