Hey guys, I'm heading back to New Glarus (the town and the brewery)for the first time in like...10 years, I think. When I last was there, get this: I wasn't even in to beer. I tried NG's fruit beers, and thought they were good, but also that they tasted too much like beer. Sigh. Obviously I'm going back with a little better knowledge of what I missed out on, so it's pretty simple: Are there specific days I should visit the brewery, limits to buying beer, etc.? I realize this is a pretty cut-and-dry visit (I'm going towards the end of June, and I don't think there's anything special going on then), but if there's anything to know, I'd rather find out now. Thanks for any insight, and cheers!
Days - Check Facebook for any special events but off hand, I've not heard of anything Beer - only limited by what you can afford and transport.
Well, when I went there last fall they still had the 20th anny brew and there was a limit. I think 2btl/person, but could be wrong. I also remember there being a local hole in the wall sports bar that had a much better tap selection and a wider variety of bottle (for offsite consumption) than they offer at NG. They had multiple fruit beers, and also had multiple thumbprint options both on tap and for take out purchase. I was pretty let down by the taprooms offers and this unassuming sports bar seemed to have everything.
As of last Wed, it was all gone and there was nothing with a limit. Grabbed 3 cases of Apple and left quite happy. For Thumbprint, they had: Apple Berliner Spiced Winter Warmer Dubbel
A couple days ago on my way back to MN from Milwaukee I was able to pick up some of this years Berliner Weiss in the Wisc Dells area, so if that's not available at the NG shop, I'd look around.
Does anyone know if they still offer a brewery tour? If memory serves, my dad took it last time we were there, and said you walked around with headphones on, listening to an audio tour. Sound right? Thanks for the feedback, guys!
Tour is self guided. Just buy a beer or a 3 pour tasting and wander around. Last time I went we spent a lot of time hanging out in the courtyard. The place is beautiful.
