Hopping on the 5:10AM train tomorrow morning then heading to the convocation at Columbia University followed by celebratory drinks with the graduate afterwards. I know there's gotta be some great American Craft Beer Week events happening tomorrow, but I'm having a tough time finding them. Any ideas?
Look for Heady Topper. I here it's lurking around town. Dive bar is a good place up near Columbia, I hear they has Bakeoods Bastard on tap.
I'm one of the lucky ones that has a steady flow of HT at my fingertips. I can get it about an hour drive away from here at Manchester Discount Beverage and I make the trek regularly. Holding my last two from my previous pickup for merc7186. Once those are outa here I'll have another excuse to go to Manchester!
There is a beer-and-burger bar right next to Columbia University called Mel's Burger Bar. BA listing here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/27236/?view=beerfly&ba They have a bunch of craft brews on tap and are pretty much the only option for good beer up there by the college. Pricey, though. Otherwise, you should head further down to the Upper West Side to places like Dive Bar, George Keeley's and Amsterdam Ale House in the West 70's and 80's.
True story. Family dictated the first couple of stops but after we ditched them we ended up at Rattle N Hum, followed by Blind Tiger, then Eataly (they were packed upstairs and wouldn't let us up to Birreria.) I'll link it up when I have the pics and stories online.
OK, so I finally have some pics up and a little blurb about each of the places that matters. Before I even got to these places I already had a killer buzz going so I pieced it together as best I could. I gotta say I preferred Blind Tiger over Rattle N Hum waaaay more which really surprised me given the hype surrounding RnH. Kinda disappointed that I didn't get to go to Birreria but what I go to do while I was in Eataly more than made up for it. By the time I left there I was TRASHED and I ended up losing about $60 worth of goodies I picked up there somewhere in the taxi, Penn Station, the business class section we were kicked out of, and the regular section of the train where I blacked out and literally had to be shaken awake when we reached Albany. (The goodies were mostly bought to appease SWMBO for going to Eataly without her.) I'm definitely planning another (much more laid back) trip soon, with girlfriend in tow, where we'll grab soup dumplings in China Town for lunch, Blind Tiger for drinks, and Birreria for dinner. http://thefuj.com/tagged/Post-Grad-Boozin
