Just to tack on to what @warriorsoul said, if Monk's was initially attractive because of the Cantillon, Teresa's usually have at least one Cantillon variety in-stock to drink on premise.

By kid friendly I guess I probably just meant that kids are allowed. He's a little one and will be in a stroller all the time so he won't be running around annoying people or anything like that.

Thanks for all of the advice on Monk's and the other bottle shops. I'm not too keen on going into Philly proper so, based on the advice here, we'll probably skip that.

On the bottle shops, who will have the absolute best selection? I understand and appreciate the note on prices at the Malvern Beer Store, but I doubt they're higher than the ridiculous prices in Pittsburgh-area bottle shops. $50 for Cascade Kriek or GI Madam Rose, $40+ for Eclipse variants anyone? I just want the best possible selection on things I may not find out my way. I don't drink hoppy stuff much either, so older stock isn't really a concern for me.

A trip out to the "Main Line" of Route 30 will get you to Teresa's, Tired Hands (2 locations now) and Devon Whole Foods for bottles.

I know there are a couple bottle shops around Tired Hands, but I haven't hit either of them as I don't generally go to bottle shops.

Monks and Belgian Cafe both have cantillon.

Whether or not they sell it to you (or you can afford it) is another question.

If you want to go to Monks, do it when they open. They fill up fast. I would suggest the Belgian Cafe as an alternative - food is the same but about 30% cheaper and they had more variety in the coolers last time I went.

If you are dead-set on getting cantillon, you'll possibly be let down. If you just want some good beer (including lambic/gueuze) you'll find something solid.

If price is not a concern The Beer Shoppe in Ardmore is for you, just a few blocks walk from Tired Hands Cafe.

I was just there a few days ago 'window shopping'; I did not buy anything since there prices are so high.

    Cheers!

haha I appreciate all of the suggestions. Hopefully the comment about price didn't sound pretentious as that wasn't the intent, just used to sky-high prices around Pittsburgh.

For a bottle shop, when I lived in DC I visited family in south Jersey regularly and always swung by the Foodery in Northern Liberties. Expensive, but almost always found a couple gems.

I was in the area 2 weeks ago and found http://www.phillytapfinder.com/ to be an excellent resource, as @ShanePB suggested.

Was going to do Monk's on that visit but Khyber Pass Pub had PtE on as well and it was easy to get to off 95 and a very cool environment. Tap list as a whole was excellent too, better than Monk's IMO, at least on that night. I highly recommend it. Had a grungy Toronado type vibe that we thoroughly enjoyed.
