Hi all, I'm heading from Boston to Sharon, VT in a few weeks - alas, we're probably not going to have time to make it up to the best breweries (Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, Lawson's…) further north. Looking for suggestions for places to pick up those kind of beers though in the Sharon area - any ideas greatly appreciated. Or anything else en route through MA and southern NH. Cheers!
Worthy Burger is next door in South Royalton. Always a solid tap list and great food. Take the ~45 min drive to Montpelier and do Hunger Mountain, Three Penny, etc. You can time it right at Hunger Mountain and get Heady and the Lawson's delivery.
Not much in that area Hops N Barley in Woodstock has a good selection but no alchemist or hills farmstead and gets Lawsons every other Monday. Right next door is worthy kitchen with great food and a great tap list. Flying Goose Brewpub in New London NH is on the way and has good beer and food. Exit 4 in Londonderry has 3 breweries Kelsens, From the Barrel and Rockinghham.
If I'd have to pick one I'd say From the Barrel and if there MK DIPA is on that's a great beer. But Kelsen's has made leaps and bounds with there battle Axe IPA if it's fresh it's a good solid beer.
I was just up in the area and have to second the advice on hitting Hops and Barley and Worthy Kitchen. WK was outstanding for both food and beer and H & B had plenty of interesting stuff like Crop, 14th Star, Lost Nation, etc. even if they didn't have the "big boys". They're a pretty great one two punch of shopping and drinking/eating!
Great will give them a try - do they do growlers / sell bottles or cans? I'd like to bring as much as I can back to Cohasset, MA
Hops and barley had 5 or 6 growler options though i didnt get any. I'm not sure if you needed one of their growlers or could fill anything you bring though.
Thanks for the followup info. Quick funny story about Hops and Barley. When I was in line I overhead the woman in front of me asking about when something was expected to come in and the guy said "could be as early as tonite". So I, of course, start to get visions of a lucky treat like Second Fiddle or something making a surprise appearance during my visit. When I get to the cashier and ask him about it he says "oh, she was just another person asking about Not Your Dad's Root Beer. We can't keep that stuff on the shelves." Sad Trombone......
Ha, I tried a bottle of that stuff last week actually - tasted like a sickly sweet soda with some booze. Although as a Brit, we never really had root beer over there so clearly I'm missing the reference….
Yeah, I don't think it tastes bad per se, but it's far too sweet to drink more than a couple sips of. Also, I meant to include this in my last reply, but in case you might find some additional useful information in there, here's the link to my question about visiting Quechee, VT a few weeks back which is where I found out about H&B and WK.
Thanks again for the recommendations here - I went up there this past weekend. Had a Fiddlehead IPA at WK and even got a couple of bottles of Hill Farmstead Everett at Hops And Barley - as well as some Idletyme, Crop, 14th Star and a growler of Double Dose. Cheers!
