I have a friend heading to St. Louis for a week. What are the bars and bottle shops she need to visit? She loves her craft beer. Thanks

    Perennial- a must stop
Urban chestnut- new biergarten is amazing
Civil life- does session beers better than anyone.
Schlafly- have to visit the brewery who started it all in st Louis
    4 Hands- a must stop

The wine and cheese place in Clayton- fantastic beer/wine/bourbon store

    Pappys smokehouse- best BBQ

    That's a good 1st two days.

I echo all that. Plus, The Craft Beer Cellar just opened in Clayton as well. Not sure what they could have that Paul at TWCP doesn't, but it will be fun to see.

It would be. drive to visit the brewery, but pick up some 2nd shift while in town. Especially brewcocky - one of the best double IPAs and some Katy- a hidden gem as far as Brett beets go. There green bird goes is also good. LSD is amazing.

33 wine is always a good place to stop as well. Itap if they have something going on. Perennial for sure and if it's Thursday there's always a new brew and might get lucky with a Side Project release.

I always make Schlafly a must stop. Good food and usually a couple good beers on tap they don't distribute. Their beer stores are alright. I'm always kind of letdown by the selections, to be honest. You'll find nice beers but I think after going to places in Chicago, Ohio and Wisconsin I'm kind of jaded.

As far as BBQ, hit both Bogarts and Pappy's. I prefered Bogarts myself and the line was shorter but Pappy's was still unbelievably awesome.

Thanks everyone. They all sound great. Will pass along the info and hopefully she will bring back a goodie or two for me too!

North of St. Louis is a place called Cugino's that has an exceptionally impressive tap list right now, as well as an equally impressive list of bottles for sale. They just had their anniversary weekend, and as of yesterday the only thing gone was Abraxas (though they still sell it by the bottle). Plus, the beer guy, Ben, is awesome. Worth the trip to Florissant.

Heading down to STL myself and found this helpful... was just wondering if besides the 2nd shift beers listed on here there were any other hidden gem local beers I should try?

Charleville and Crown Valley make solid stuff IMO but don't get a ton of press.

Great thread as I am heading to St. Louis (visit Wash U with my son) just for a couple of days and will be staying in the Loop area near campus. Any breweries or bars/restaurants in that area that are walkable (or off the metro line) that can be visited without a car?

Some places in the loop worth checking out are Pi, Three Kings, Cicero's, The Good Pie, and Mission Taco. Not great beer selection but if you like Asian foods Corner 17, U-City Grill, and Fork and Stix are solid choices. Wine and Cheese Place is a liquor store pretty close to Wash U

By the way, thanks for being specific about where you are staying and whatnot. I hate the vague dime a dozen threads that basically say "I'm coming to St. Louis, what should I do?"

For breweries: Urban chestnut on Washington, 4 hands, and Schlafly Tap Room are all 10-15 minute walks from metrolink stops.

Passing through St. Louis on Friday and came across this thread. Looking more for bottles to grab that I can't get in Chicago? Will I be able to find Abraxas (where?)? Definitely want to grab some 2nd Shift but what else is a must buy for sharing back at home?
