I'll be in Syracuse in mid-November for a couple of days, would love any recommendations on best places to find beer - both stores and bars/breweries. My wife has a job offer, so we're heading in to check out the town a bit. Would love to find some stuff I can't get in Minnesota. Big fan of imperial stouts, sours, and barrel-aged stuff. Thanks!
Not Syracuse proper, but if you have the time head to Auburn and check out Prison City. One of my favorite breweries.
Lots to choose from. Middle Ages is a place to start. Empire. More options here: http://www.newyorkupstate.com/drinks/
Not a brewery, but this is currently my favorite, without having to deal with Armory Square: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/43701/?view=ratings I agree with @Sage954 that Prison City is really solid, but it's 45 minutes or so away. AFA breweries, I thought Willow Rock and WT Brews were decent. Empire's brewpub in Armory Square is alright, but if you're in AS, there's better beer bar options like Clarks and Blue Tusk.
Now and Later - Tipp Hill Blue Tusk - downtown J Ryans - downtown Evergreen - downtown Empire is very mediocre. I would definitely hit the bars and Middle Ages before Empire.
This is about all you need. Syracuse is far behind NYC/Buffalo/Rochester/Capital Region/Hudson Valley when it comes to breweries.
^^Couldn't agree more, however, it is starting to pick up. Much more is getting distributed here than ever before recently. And Welcome to the 'Cuse!
Too bad you weren't here early Nov. First it was Alchemist, then OtherHalf, now Lawson's Finest is everywhere. Good time to be in the 'Cuse.
