Cobblestone's is probably the best place in York. They have something like 30 taps, and good food to boot.

Just my two cents on this, but if you have a car, drive an extra half hour and go up to Harrisburg. Westy's in Camphill is an outstanding bottle shop/distributor (just remember you're in Pa., so that means you have to buy beer by the case here), or you can shop at the Wegman's in Mechanicsburg (where you can buy by the 6 pack or bottle). Also, Al's in Hampden has a very good draft selection, and their bottle/6 pack selection is very solid as well. For that matter, a bit West of town is Troegs in Hershey and they're worth a visit as well.

I drive up from Baltimore fairly frequently and I'm always wishing there was some place in York that was worth a visit. I've been to Cobblestones on several occasions and have never been happy with my experience (food is typical pub grub or a slight cut above and I've frequently ordered beers that I felt had been sitting around for too long and so tasted off).

    Good luck.

It's probably a matter of having too many taps and not enough people ordering them. Do they really have 67 taps? That works at a place like Max's that can still turn beers over quickly with 100 taps, but York doesnt have that kind of demographic. That said, I've never gotten a beer there that I thought tasted old, save for one Smooth Hoperator that kicked the keg. I'm not complaining about that because I got it for free even though it was nearly a full pint.

"Do they really have 67 taps?"

I don't know, but they very well might. It's a lot more than 30 though, and 67 doesn't sound totally off base.

The last time I was there it was last year during NN season. I stopped off to get some NN, but unfortunately they were out of it. So I got a glass of Hop Explosion, based on the description in the Cobblestone's beer menu. To say that the beer didn't come close to matching the beer menu description would be an understatement (not the first time that's happened of course, but it's always a bit annoying). On top of that, it really seemed as if the beer had been sitting on the gas too long (you can read my review, as well as Slatetanks; I'm pretty sure we both had a glass of HE from the same keg there). Maybe my experience was an aberration, but I haven't been back since...

Had a Prima there that was way off; green and gassy.

Cobblestones has been somewhat better of late with Danny taking care of the beers. Their selection is very good, but stick to their recently added tap list to assure it hasn't been on too long. Food is now only ok as they lost their chef to The Cove. Vitos pizza has a decent beer or 2 on tap. They also have a very good bottle/six pack selection. Might not be as good as Quick 6, but they have hard to get things like Hop Slam even after everyone else has sold out.

There's an Italian restaurant off Rte 83 called Victor's that has a bar and about 15 different drafts and over 100 different bottle.

+ 1 for Victor's. You can find Russian River beers there occasionally.

Victor's has the best Italian food in York, although a little pricey. Try the Hot Sausage D'Angelo as it is brought in from the Italian market in Philly.

Ummm.... I'm planning to give it a try at some point, but.... best Italian food in York? That's like saying a restaurant has the best Italian food in Guam. Pretty hard to get too excited after reading a statement like that.

Try Bully's Tavern just over the river in Columbia. They have their draft list posted online. Right now they have DFH World Wide Stout on tap. They always seem to get odd ball sturd that you won't find anywhere. A huge bottle list two. They'll even let you buy off the list and take it home. Food is amazing too.

How accurate/up-to-date do they keep their draft list? The current list shows WWS, NN and Double Trouble, which I agree is impressive. Looks like it's pretty easy to get to if one is on their way to Lancaster from York via hiway 30.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to give it a try!

It's always accurate and up to date. Guess there's alway a chance you could get there and it'll be kicked....but that's anywhere. I agree, not a huge selection but they always bring heavy hitters you can't get anywhere else.

Another place I'll suggest us Bulls Head Tavern in Lititz. Getting further away from York, but I'd you're traveling Route 30, it's an easy side trip. They also have a good draft list that's always changing. Check out ther website for the latest.

I stopped by yesterday in fact. It seemed like a nice enough place, though I thought their prices a bit on the high side ($6 for a pint of NN). Didn't get any food, though the menu seemed to have some interesting item/choices.

As for the Bulls Head, I agree it's a great place (went to the cask festival there a couple year's back). However, my recollection is that it was kind of a pain in the ass to get to. I took the hiway from Lancaster, and while it wasn't that far distance-wise, the drive was pretty slow. As I recall, it took me roughly a half hour to drive there once I got off of hiway 30. For that kind of driving time, I figure I might as well drive up to TJ's, Union Jacks, the Drafting Room or even TND.
