Heads Up: Karma System Revamp!

Yeah, it's kinda amazing how good I am at this.

 

Can those of us who lost >500 points get a 10 point "losers bonus"?
When I noticed my score this morning I thought it was time renew my Society membership (last year points dropped at renewal time, anss reminder to pay up).

 

I made my amateur diagnosis checking your profile, hoping that's ok. You have made a terrific job on the beer side, but posting some more and maybe add some pictures could do wonders. See you!

I just don't want to lose my Society membership! I can't go back to ads... I mean, I'll pay again. But I've become used to a certain lifestyle.

TBH after my initial shock of having seen how my points got literally halved I came to the forum and looked at some of you guys’ numbers but when I saw yours Jack, it made me cry out Man Alive!

I mean, I know that I’m a schlimazel (this is already the second time I lost quite a bit of points here on BA) so your mileage may vary but seeing the way yours got deep sixed made me wonder (how) about them apples… (NOT in a schadenfreude kind of way!) I feel you, man.

If the same would have happened to my stock in the fridge that happened to my karma points, then boy would I be appalled! But yep, double checked and all my beers are still intact.
Had a good run with them karma numbers but it made me realize at the end of the day the number of my beers is all that matters

We all should have a detailed explanation on how some of us lost close to 50-70 percent point reduction (KARMA) where others didn’t loose much. My beer karma was over 3100 and now I’m just over 1300. When are the new Avatars coming.

 

I went from over 7,000 points to 1,200. I'm not happy at all about it.

 

it seems we wasted a lot of time. It’s seems we go three feet forward to go 10 feet back. My focus will be the beers and not so much the site … CHEERS

 

Here's what I think is happening to some. The previous system rewarded contribution at a set (but hidden) rate. Those that participated heavily in one part of the site (e.g., forum posts but no ratings or reviews, or vice versa) had a ton of karma from the set rate for that activity. The new system rewards moderate participation across a broad aspect of site engagement.

This is in addition to what I mentioned in a previous post: very high levels of achievement in any one category seem to be underweighted in terms of points.

The reality is that the point numbers really don't matter, as Todd will get to distribute the ranking titles in a way that fairly delineates participation levels.

 

It seems to make sense, do we know the highest levels in each new category. Are some category’s going to be capped?

Here’s a suggestion for those actually concerned about their points, comparing to others s etc, look at areas you have lower level status and focus on doing what is necessary to get higher levels. For myself, need to write more Brewery and place reviews. Visiting a new brewery today and plan to do a nice writeup.

 

They're just points, guy. It's not like you could trade them in for something tangible. They don't really exist or mean anything. You haven't been slighted in any way.

 

As far as the reason some were impacted more than others, they've changed the category weighting and added more categories, leaning more towards contribution. If you think a lot of people are miffed about the points, wait until the titles/levels are applied.

 

Someone with some time on their hands should add up all the points and see what the highest score possible is.
