Unfortnualey, a trade of heady sent USPS from VT was delayed from 1 day shipping to 4 days. When I got it yesterday, there was barely any liquid and just pure slush sounds in the can. I put them in the fridge and this morning they're all liquid. Are the cans ruined now?

Only one way to find out. Needless to say, this is one of the dangers of trading in winter especially since it has been so cold.

Figured that was going to be the response. Going to crack one later today and see how they are. Definitely one of the risks, was hoping the day or two shipping from VT to NJ would make it ok. Was happy my end didn't have any issues with shipping at least.

Your beer should be fine as long as the can seal wasn't compromised while frozen. Enjoy!

Have you had a heady before? If it was me and I hadn't had one, I might actually consider not drinking. Your first heady should be as fresh as possible and non-slushified.

OP looks like you're an old-timer so I'm assuming you've had one?

Yea I've had one but definitely agree with what you were recommending. I'm going to open one later today and report back.

    They're definitely ruined.
Put on rubber gloves and throw them all away - quickly.
They may have contracted a deadly virus during the freezing stage.

But seriously...I can't believe that you actually need any advice on this subject.

There have been multiple times when I needed to cool a beer down quickly, tossed it in the feeezer, and fogot about it. After thawing it later the beer was always still good

I won a BIF earlier this month and had frozen cans of nugget nectar daisy cutter and some cali locals and they were all fine IMO

Way to cold to ship in or out of the NE, not even close to ok. Your lucky they're cans or you could have had bursted bottles at the worst. If it's under 25 I won't ship, better closer to 30.

I'm an officially licensed beer inspector, send me a few cans and I will do a thorough QA inspection for you.

I think one thing that happens when beer freezes is all the dissolved CO2 in the liquid separates from the beer, and doesn't easily redissolve. Also, anything in suspension in the beer (colloids) will likely fall out of suspension with freezing. This may alter the taste of the beer.

This definitely doesn't happen... I have accidentally frozen countless sodas and beers and all of them had normal carbonation when thawed.

+1 on all who say the beer will be fine and taste the same - I just had this EXACT issue 2-3 weeks ago, I got "slushy" heady and second fiddle....Still tasted great, and I have had both before. def let it thaw for 3-4 hours minimum before cracking it open. Cheers!

Corked and caged brews have this issue, though obviously not a problem here.

If you let it thaw the CO2 should be redissolved into the liquid due to limited head space in the can.
