I think the first step would be to try to find a DIPA that is unfiltered. I think that's what lends so much to the unique nature of Heady. I'm just not sure of any widely distributed unfiltered DIPAs. Anyone?

I'm a big cigar city fan and get down to the brewery a few times a year, but always thought that jai alai was just okay. then I had a fresh one on tap recently and thought it was fantastic. I think they have changed the recipe somewhat.

closest I've had is pliny the younger. I would steer them in that direction.

Iv'e heard sixpoint resin offered as a comparison at a package store before. While resin and stochasticity are both very good I'd be disappointed if heady was similar to those. And quite honestly I don't get why people want suggestions on a similar beer to heady because if its that great I'd want it to stand alone.

my sister was up in Brattleboro a week ago and asked around for HT to send down to me. I obviously knew she wasn't going to find any. Instead, the individual at the shop suggested the new Limbo IPA. Fortunately, both HT and Limbo are in my fridge right now and I gotta say Limbo isn't bad at all. really good. however very little can compare to that pounder of holy hoppiness.

Where exactly do you have to go to get heady and on what days? I was planning a trip for a variety of reasons and heady was one good reason

Abrasive and Ghandi bot have very similar hop profiles. And the empty can smells just like heady toppers empty can.

Agree. Also, I just had some Revolution Anti-Hero last night. Drank it from the can and it tasted to me like a "heady light".

This.... anyone recommending an IPA or DIPA that is filtered is really just recommending something that might be awesome, but doesn't compare or taste anything like Heady.

that being said, you could try recommending beers using the same yeast like Maine Brewing Co. Lunch ... while that might not be unfiltered, it uses the same yeast and probably the same hops and is the true "mini heady"

Tell them no other beer even comes close to the complexity of hype flavor that Heady produces on one's taste buds

Fresh Fresh LT limbo has a similar citrusy smoothness to HT IMO. Although it does seem to fall off the citrus train pretty quick though.

Heady is obviously unique and ranks at the top of my personal list. It is a 5 out of 5 (by my taste) that I have drank more often than any other single beer over the last 2.5 years (40+ over that time). I have compared both Surly Abrasive and HF Abner with HT. Side-by-side, a taste comparison could name any of these the winner. Bottom line, there is nothing that is HT...tell them to jump on the trading forum

Good idea...A store near Vermont that doesn't sell Heady must have Younger available instead. 12 packs or mini keg?

yeah i agree nothing is exactly like heady topper. I kind of thought abner might be close, but in a much more refined way. Heady is what it is. It's definitely a quest beer for me. It's fun just driving up to beautiful vermont to spend a day or two up there, showing up early to get in line and get your case or two and then enjoy hiking, going to great beer bars, ben n jerries, etc. It's one of the best long weekend trips for an amazing beer you can do. Plus when you bring it back home you get to share it with your buds.

Not many DIPAs taste the same to begin with so I would tell the customer something I like drinking and hope they do too.

yup. you'd think being able to brew a solid IPA would a be a prerequisite for a brewery anymore.

For those of you bashing Jai Alai, did you bother checking the canned on date before posting your ridiculous assessment?
