I am crazy in love with Dirtwolf.Between that and Chillwave I don't think i have drank anything but those two in 3 months. If it is Heady light then thank god we in Jersey have plenty of it and damm cheap at 7.99 a four pack (for DW)and 9.99 a four for CW.I certainly wish it was more available.Between that and Double Sunshine those are the only two beers I feel sorry that I have not had it yet.

I kind of agree with the OTWOA sub... drinking one now. Has the same sweet finish and mouthfeel. Neither my favorite IIPA, but they are similar.

I think you would love Heady Topper. Also, you guys in Jersey have some great prices on beer!

I think people curious about HT need to just go to Vermont and get it or line up a trade. It's not hard to do and not hard to trade for .

I think people comparing Jai Alai to HT are tripping, hard.

I think Abrasive isn't a bad comp. Recently I was struck by War Elephant from Rushing Duck, that beer is might impressive.

I count myself lucky in that I spent a couple years simply rolling up to the cannery and grabbing myself a case of HT without even waiting on line; often my wife and I were the only ones in there. But there are loads of terrific hoppy beers out there that are just as good and just as unique. The bad news is they're not dirtwolf, limbo, jai alai, or whatever, at least IMO.

Double Sunshine and Abner and abrasive and Julius and ephraim and Nelson and OTWOA and pure hoppiness and Citra etc etc are also ridiculously good. I'm sorry but the best beers in the world usually ARENT sitting on a shelf at Total Wine or Bevmo or whatever. That's not hype either. Those beers are better than Dirtwolf, jai alai, torpedo, double simcoe, etc etc ad nauseum.

I'd say the closest beer I've had to heady would be Crom from Rocky Point Artisan Brewers

I did not find HT to be that well balanced, HT to me was more of a slam of hops and that was it, palate wrecker didn't wreck my palate as bad as the HT did, also I think that the mouthfeel of this beer is what actually makes this beer seem so much different than any other DIPA (still undecided if I like it or not), if you matched the flavor profile you still wouldn't think it was nearly the same because the feel of HT is that much different than any other beer that I've had, just my opinion
Grapefruit slam doesn't compare to it at all IMO, I think the closest mouthfeel with flavor profile I think I have had compared to HT is Modern Times Blazing World, way more balanced than HT, and a damn good beer, but I think they only distribute in SoCal right now

I said it previously in the thread (and others are saying it too), Dirtwolf is the closest flavor profile I've had to HT. Dirtwolf is definitely not the same thing, but it has some similarities and is a fantastic beer.

For reference, me and my friends did this the other night, so that's where I'm coming from:

That is one hell of a tasting you have there. HT is the only one of those that I haven't tried. All of those are top notch beers. For me DW wins for a combination of price (got it for $32 a case), availability (brewed year round and readily available), and taste (right there with all of them). Limited availability gets on my nerves.... I don't want to chase beer, I want to drink it.

Had Dirt Wolf this last week for the first time and I wasn't impressed. Ok beer, but not close to the top.

Hi-Res is delicious, but the flavor profile is completely different

Thanks, it was a great time. How in the world do you get DW for $32 a case??? It's $11 a 4 pack here!

General consensus was heady was the fave, then chillwave, pliny, dirtwolf, enjoy by, hop juju. Most agreed that dirtwolf carries a similar profile to heady, just lesser in every respect.

Anyone that ever goes through Central Ohio needs to try to grab some of Columbus Brewing's Bodhi. I would put it up against any DIPA out there, really tasty stuff.

So I finally tried this as well as a couple other Dipas that were relatively fresh I found Ghandi Bot had a very similar taste to it while FW Double Jack had the smell but not the taste just my .02

I agree with this. The fact that DirtWolf sometimes leaves small hop and yeast bits in my glass is another reason I find them comparable. Also based on your assessment, I think a perfect blend of DirtWolf and Hop Ranch could possibly create a closer match since Hop Ranch is a little sweeter than DirtWolf.

There's a lot of hype to Heady Topper, probably deserved because it is so good, but at the same time I think there are countless amazing options out there. Great beer, but not worth the fuss IMO.

I hope HT is nothing like Grapefruit Slam. If it is I will be thoroughly disappointed. Although I have never had HT I can comment that Grapefruit Slam lacked the crisp citrusy bite that I had hoped for. It was dry and musty. If HT has these characteristics then it is similar to Grapefruit Slam

It was a victory sale at a local distributor, but normal price is $36. FWIW I'm not saying that it's the best tasting of the bunch, but given all the variables....
