Sourced from an Instagram post, so not totally reliable. But apparently Beer Boutique in Brooklyn is giving away cans of Heady Topper with a $50 beer purchase. I'm not a liquor lawyer, but I'm pretty sure there are a few rules being broken if this is true.

It's fully advertised on their website:

    http://www.beerboutiquenyc.com/template_view.cfm?PageID=1

I guess technically they can call it a "gift" and give it away which is not against the law.

EDIT: I've never shopped there, but they only offer 34 oz growler fills?
EDIT 2: Ah they use those counter pressure PET jugs.

Eh, whatever. Worse things have been done. Still kinda childish though if you ask me.

Really curious about this comment - what's childish about it? They are running a promotion to draw business in, using a pretty tempting ploy to attract customers.
Looks like they also have bottle and can sales.

Oh I just meant for the growler fills. Not a huge fan of specific use growlers.

They use those plastic growlers that are free, but maybe they'll fill a glass if you ask.
There's usually some sort of give away going on there, but I don't think it's illegal, they are really nice guys.

Yes, great mom & pop operation and great folks. I've made the trek out there for the Heady. I think if you buy $100 worth of beer, you get two.

Am I the only one around here, when I read a silly comment, I check to see what time it was posted? Haha. I dk man. It was late, and I had a few beers. Childish was probably just the wrong word. I guess it just seems stupid. How far out of their way are people going to go for one can of beer?

lol point well taken on the "time stamp" - i've done that many a time.

in my case it was a 30 min subway ride to be able to try Heady for the first time. well worth it, considering if you trade for it, you have to go through the hassle of packing, shipping and paying fedex/ups. the folks there are really great and treat you like family when you walk in. i feel like small businesses like that are few and far between these days.

I actually had my first can of Heady by taking them up on this offer earlier this year/late last year. The guy there is super friendly and very courteous.

The small handfull of times I was going there, I was spending $35 more or less anyway, and I didnt need my arm twited to spend another $15.

I suspect a super secret pact with a local distributor, rumor is the Alchemist is in on it.

or maybe they just drive to VT.

Beer Boutique is a nice little ma and pa operation ran by this super-friendly couple who like good beer. They once mentioned to me that they frequently drive to Vermont to hunt for Heady and have a nice weekend together. It's really just that.

The Alchemist doesn't have to be in on anything as far as I know. They sell every drop of everything they make within a week- and for good reason (though I can always be wrong).
