There will always be people against something, you can't change that. Did the temperance movement instill prohibition without any big business involvement? I'm not sure about that.

I prefer a holistic approach to my health and not a reactionary or panic approach. I also believe that death will kill me eventually and that I do not have to live as long as the next guy; so my approach is moderation not born out of fear but out of vanity. I like my pants to fit and that's that.

I guess I'm warning you more than anything. No worries, though. I just thought you should know.

total BS. like MADD constantly pushing for lower Blood Alcohol limits to the point where if you have 1 drink in some states its a DUI. Ridiculous. This sort of puritanical BS hast to stop. I'm not defending drunk driving, but MADD wants to get to a point where it is zero alcohol prior to driving and it seems like that is where we are headed.

Beer is a "horrible health damaging food". Now that we live in a world with clean water, there's really no physically healthy reason to drink beer (mental health is a completely different story, but that's another story). So, you're on a forum about beer saying we should get rid of beer? You suggest we should get rid of the "ingredients that cause health problems"....like alcohol? Did you somehow end up here from a link from 18thAmendmentAdvocate.com?

I mean, for the most part, beer has 4 ingredients, all of them naturally grown products. Sure, there's adjuncts like chocolate, artificial syrups, whale semen, beard hairs, animal testicles, fruit loops and only god knows what else in some beers, but for the vast majority, it's malt, hops, yeast and water...which are all about as natural as it comes.

How is quality craft beer different (using your logic) than Miller Lite? I mean, what do you think goes into Miller Lite? Lead and arsenic? It's water, barley, yeast, corn and hops....3 of the 5 are grown on farms like every other vegetable. I know, you must be indicting Budweiser, that stuff must be full of a bunch of unhealthy crap like water, barley, yeast, rice and hops....oh....wait.

I think you are putting words in my mouth, or in my post... Despite what people think, beer does actually have some "physically healthy reason"s to drink. It raises good cholesterol, lowers bad cholesterol, hops have a load of health benefits, barley is good for you, brewer's yeast has it's benefits. I'm not one who thinks that beer or alcohol per se is bad for you, when moderated. Of course more than 3 beers or servings a day is pushing it. I usually stick to 1 or 2 beers in a day. I don't think that alcohol in beer is a "horrible" ingredient. I do think that artificial colors, flavors, high fructose corn syrup, and whatever other weird shit they put in our drinks and food are horrible because they've been linked to cancer, diabetes, and many other extreme health problems. Beer is and should be natural. BMC beer is different from craft mainly because they use high fructose corn syrup, and sometimes artificial colors like caramel color in Newcastle Brown. I don't want artificial ingredients in beer. That is one reason why I don't like BMC big beer and I support craft beer as a movement.

I think that worrying about stuff like this is a waste of time. Do you know what else is unhealthy? Breathing. I guarantee that you'll die after doing a lot of that :grinning:

It's probably worth noting that roughly 35,000 people in the US died of alcohol related liver failure/cirrhosis in 2013 (most recent year I found data for) and another 20,000 died of cancers associated with alcohol. For reference, about 400,000 people died of cancer, heart disease, or COPD associated with smoking**.

55K is certainly a notable number, but given how engrained and ubiquitous alcohol consumption is in our culture, it does give some context to the risk. Which of course isn't to say that healthy drinking guidelines are meaningless, but I suspect that if there wasn't the "morality/sinfulness" aspect to drinking, there wouldn't be quite so much handwringing about the health risks. They obviously exist, but there are many things we do everyday that carry more risk with less fanfare.

Personally I think the violent crime/domestic abuse association with alcohol is a lot more troubling than the health risks.

** I grabbed these numbers from a quick google search of the CDC, NIH, and

No one is ever asking genuine medical advice, but it will still get shut down. Must be a liability thing. I'm sure I'd do the same thing in their shoes.

As the Spanish say, "a little, often".
It's probably (no, definitely) more harmful on your body to stress and fret about it than to have a couple drinks at the end of the night.

Quoted for the truth, I think the government says almost everything is bad and leads to cancer now a days. If you control your drinking there is nothing wrong with it by any means.

If there's no beer in Heaven I don't want to go there. Not because I would miss the beer, just don't won't to spend eternity in the company of a bunch of judgmental teetotalers.

My grandfather, who is 97 and still going strong (for a 97 year old), always says "everything in moderation, including moderation." Meaning: don't sweat it if you drink too much every once in a while. Probably do sweat it if you're doing it every week, though. Be cautious about generalizing from the individual case, of course, but the dude has been enjoying quality wine and beer his whole life.

Opinions about drinking and health are just like those "experts" and "pundits" that come to life every time there's some sort of political upheaveal, scandal or call it what you like. Of course they're all entitled to their opinions but in the big picture, THEY'RE ALL FULL OF SHIT AND ONLY THERE TO COLLECT AN EASY PAYCHECK.

I don't understand less than three beers in a session, regardless of ABV. Are you really bringing up healthy & responsible drinking on this website??? Much more indulgents than water inbetweeners on here I'm sure...
