Are they planning to release this again or discontinued? I haven't seen it anywhere for a long time. I loved it and was wondering what to expect.

It's news to me if it's been discontinued. It's listed as a seasonal, generally available in July and August. The Heavy Seas Alehouse still lists it on their menu, and my recollection is that they had it on tap when I was last there a couple months back.

Maybe check the website or call/email the brewery to find out where you can find it in your area. I virtually certain Heavy Seas still makes it (under the Pyrate ship line-up).

Look at the reviews. No one has reviewed it for a while either. I haven't seen it in my bottle shops in Frederick, MD for nearly a year I think. If its a seasonal I guess that makes sense, but usually seasonals are found on shelves for a couple of months before they are gone. I personally love it, but other reviews are somewhat mixed so its not considered a sought after/world class rare find or anything that would make it disappear quickly.

That's correct. Here's a resopnse I got from Jenn Ladd at the brewery:

Unfortunately, we're so short on brewing space and so behind on orders for our year-round beers that we have had to severely curtail our production of seasonals this year. Red Sky is only going to be available in Sunken Samplers (no kegs will be made; no separate cases), and it hasn't been incorporated into those yet. Believe me, the situation saddens the whole brewery. I would love to take home a few cases of Red Sky myself.

Keep checking the Facebook page for when it comes out--we'll definitely keep you updated there.

    Best,
    Jenn Ladd

It's such an interesting problem to have. Does it mean they over-expanded? Does it mean they didn't plan a brewery expansion fast enough? Or is it just because their current market is asking for so much more beer than they expected and the capital to expand is too high?

I mean, generally it's a good problem as it means you are selling everything you make. But it's disappointing from a variety standpoint.

They also downsized a lot of their Mutiny Fleet, I don't think they are brewing my personal favorite, Smoke on the Water this year.

Seems like a similar problem to Victory and some other breweries. Is Heavy Seas expanding at all?

Hmmm that's disappointing that I may not be able to get a six pack of it again. I really don't want to pay $18 for 12 pack of the sunken sampler just to get the Red Sky. But then again I do really like both Loose Cannon and Black Cannon and also really like their Marzen so if a few of those are in the sampler I'll buy it. Don't really care for the Uber Pils or their version of an Impy Stout that much though.

On the other hand, the beer sure seems pretty available here in Baltimore. I've seen it on tap several times since the OP, and it's currently on cask at Max's today.

I saw that on Max's website too. Wouldn't that contradict Jenn Ladd's email saying it will only be in Sunken Samplers??

The same thought crossed my mind (hence my post). I guess it's possible that the kegs I've seen at Max's are left over from the previous batch, but I think that's pretty unlikely. I can see Max's holding on to an imperial stout or a high octane Belgian strong ale to age them for a bit, but not a spiced saison. Cask stuff in particular I think is tyically put on pretty much as soon as Max's gets it in.

So yeah, I have to think the cask at Max's (and some of the previous kegs as well) are from the current batch.
