    Weihenstephaner makes a great Helles, as does Victory if you're looking for domestic.

    Helles is the best style of beer (see avatar for evidence). Augustiner, Paulaner, Spaten, Andechs. Drown me in that and I die happy.

    I enjoyed Lowenbrau and Augustiner helles the best when I went to Munich. Probably something to do with the fact that those are the only two I couldn't get back home.

    One of my favorite styles for sure. While not the absolute best - the ones from Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr are dated and have good distribution. I'd suggest those two as a result. There are better ones, but I'd take a fresh version of those two over a "better" version that's older.

    As with most things Lager, Chuckanut makes a very fine Helles.

    Um... what? I seem to be misunderstanding your vernacular -- a ton of different German beer... and you've never heard of Helles? The unfortunate thing is, you've probably never been to Bavaria where Helles is the best. Most US breweries don't know how to concoct a good Helles, so it's understandable that you may have never had a good one, but follow the guidance of the knowing members and find a good import -- if you aren't looking for a hop-bomb or head-banging alcohol monster, that is.

    Okay -- their beer list is killin' me -- can they start distributing nationwide? Or at least to Northern Illinois? Even Southern Wisconsin! :grinning:

    Then the beer isn't a Helles. They sell Edelstoff there, which is a Spezial.
