I've always viewed doppelbock as the standard bearer for malt personally...

A similar thing happened to me. I used to love stouts and really only drank them for years, eventually burning myself a bit. Of course I turned to the mighty IPA for many many years until this past year when I decided it was time to broaden my horizon a bit and try and get into them again. Took about two weeks and a good bourbon stout and I was hooked again...RIS, American Double, didn't matter, that's all I wanted.

Took me a long time but I've realized I need to enjoy all styles to avoid burnout. Now I'm finally branching further, into Saisons, Sours, various other Belgian styles, and I've never been more in love with beer!

About to dip into a Stone imperial Russian stout myself. Stouts, porters, IPA's they're all good! BTW guys, quality hops have a dry bitterness to them.

Must say I do love a well made brown ale and completely agree they don't get enough love or are thought of as boring but some of my favorites that I've ever had or that stick out most to me are browns

I find that I enjoy porters and stouts much more during the winter, and IPA's and PA's during the summer. Not a lager fan anymore, but will occasionally venture into that category if I'm persuaded to try something.

Stouts are at their best when they are BA and have toasty coffee notes :sunglasses:

Ya'll will eventually come around. Beers with 100 IBU's and lots of booze/zany ingredients will only stay interesting for just so long before you discover the sublime pleasures of a well-made normal beer.
