I don't mean to jump into your thread, but I was wondering if you fine people could help me. I have the opportunity to hit Luxembourg next week for a couple of days. Are there any great bars I should be looking for or outstanding bottle shops where I could happen upon some good brews to bring back to the States? Lucky for me I will being flying on a cargo plane so I don't have a weight limit on my bag. If any of you kind folks could lend me a hand I would sure appreciate it! Nostrovya, Brian
One of the best shops you can find is right cross the border in Belgium called Mi-Orge Mi-Houblon, about 35km from Luxembourg centre. It's only open on Wednesday from 16h till 19h and Saturday from 9h till 18h30 (closed from 30 July till 20 August, by the way, and after that on an other location). Jump on in, by all means. You're not spoiled for choice, as far as we know. I've been through Lux City a certain amount and not found lots to write home (or here) about, beer-wise. Which is not to say that a cool Bofferding isn't a godsend for the train back to Brussels. I'm always hoping that some trailblazer on this site will unlock the secrets of the duchy. Well, there are a few notes on various beers on offer, if you search in this thread. You won't be overwhelmed with hits to comb through. Have a good trip all the same!
Thanks, Man! I will be on the look out. I like to try anything new, so we will see what happens on this trip. Hopefully the next one I will have time to go into Belgium. The one beer shop mentioned above sounds fantastic, and I certainly want to try it.
If you don't have a car, yikes, a taxi round trip from Lux City (if that's where you'll be) would be con-sid-er-able... but you can take a train to Arlon, one stop from Lux City, which is apparently walkable to the store, although somehow, somehow, I have never done that. I really should.
It certainly was possible to walk from the station to the shop, but it is now closed and will re-open end of August in its new location in Weyler, near the E411 Motorway. So definitely a car is needed I believe...
I "like"d that b/c useful info -- not b/c it's a good development. Unbelievable. All the times I've been through, usually having to change trains in Arlon since the accident a couple years ago, and I never got off to go there. I mean, I have a lifetime's worth of beer shopping at disposal, but I'm sure there'd be stuff there that doesn't make it out of the Ardennes...
