Hello from the Ormond Beach Beer Tasting Society

    I represent the Ormond Beach Beer Tasting Society. Located in Ormond Beach FLA.

    We are a group of people who get together twice a month and I host a beer tasting. At our “meetings” we taste 12-14 different beers, and we rate them, discuss them, and keep scores of how we feel about them….flavor, aroma, mouthfeel, and general overall impression.

    We been gathering since mid 2020, and have tried over 600 different beers so far, and I keep current archival records of the beers, and our scores.

    Side note: I hosted beer tastings up north from 2011 – 2020 and my personal count is now over 1340 different beers tried. I have those archived as well.

    And NO, we are not looking for money, donations, members, etc.

    Meanwhile, I peruse the beer advocate website. It looks like a great site.

    Having a tasting club sounds like a fun way to enjoy and learn about beers with the comradery that is created. My beer-drinking buddy most of the time is my wife, and she's a good judge of beers so we have a good time exploring.

    Welcome to Beer Advocate @beerman1957 !

    I enjoyed scanning over your site. What criteria is used to narrow down the 600 or so beers you've tried to the five listed as recommended? Unanimous consent, or a score criteria (say beers over 4.5 or 4.75)?

    I never participated in a group rating before, but enjoy our collective weekend tastings we conduct her (New Beer Weekend threads) that you may find of interest for beer selection or discussion / approaches used by our members.

    Folks here tend to be friendly and helpful, so don't hesitate to reach out either in this thread or beyond.

    Welcome @beerman1957. Sounds like you have found some compatriots here. And MANY more than to come. And the Tasting Society looks like a tight ship.

    Your wife too?!? Although my wife only takes a sniff and tiny sip.

    There are benefits to marrying a designated driver. Come to think of it, she doesn’t really love that joke.

    It is a fun event when we get together. We are serious tasters, but we have a great sense of humor, so the meetings are always a good time.

    While we score the beers on Aroma, Mouthfeel, Flavor, and General Impression.....
    the recommended beers on our website are individual recommendations. Our members all have different likes, so it's not a group consensus. However, the score of the beer is very high from the person/people recommending the beer.
    And so, our website will have a variety of different beers for people to explore.

    We have a member whose wife is just like that. She loves the aromas of different beers, but not the taste, so she only takes a small sip.

    I've perused this website for a few days now, and it is such a great website to find out loads of information on different beers. I have made a note of some of the beers "recommended" by people, and if I can find them, we will be tasting them as soon as possible.
