I have been trying to set up a pre-release trade for Hellshire without luck so far and learned that, in the past, the beer has seen some limited distribution. Does anybody have any thoughts or information about whether this release (June 15) might later be available outside the brewery in certain markets?

Yes, Hellshire sees some distribution. I've seen it at several places around Portland the past few years, and not just specialty beer shops. I'm pretty sure the previous version of Hellshire is still available at my local Whole Foods.

Hellshire also sees distribution in Seattle, I've seen it at Chucks before.

I'm assuming this won't be showing up in stores until well after June 15th then? I'm in the area for a wedding that weekend and see that it's a nice coincidence that this is the same weekend. Thinking through it though I'm guessing I won't be able to actually buy a bottle somewhere, at least this year's version?

Depends what you mean by "well after" June 15th. As I recall, Arch Bridge got it in just a couple of days after last year's release (they still have some in fact).

I'm wheels up out of PDX the following Monday mid-afternoon. I guess in my case well after equals about 36 hours!

Is there some reason you can't just drive down to Eugene to grab a couple of bottles? I know it's a bit of a hike to get down there, but you could probably get down there and back in 3 and half hours. If you really want it that badly.

Sorry, I'm still in my Minnesota mindset where you can't buy bottles and cans at a brewery. So can I interpret this as there will be bottles available at the Public House after the release party? Heading down the day of the release party is a no-go since that's the day of the wedding.

That's correct. Typically for some time to come after the event.

It probably wouldn't hurt to call them just to make sure they'll have them available, but I can't imagine why they wouldn't. The beer never sells out on release day, and I'm pretty certain I can recall heading over there the day after the event to pick up a couple of bottles.

It's always both a beer release and a festival.

The beer is available to the public in Hellshire Day, and they have a ton of it usually and I don't think it's in any danger of selling out.

The festival is kinda "out back" and you need a ticket for entry to it, but other than that it's easy for the general public to go grab a pour and a bottle or 3. Not even sure they impose limits. There's a little store inside the bar where you go to buy bottles.

Have no clue if they do any distro ahead of time, but you should have no trouble getting a bottle at the brewery the day after release.

In the past I think they did, but I'm pretty certain even that's been eliminated now. I think you can pretty much buy as much as you want of the regular bottling.

    Well hello! Been a while.

Hellshire goes on next Saturday at the fest. Unlike years past this years festival is closed off to festival attendees only. The pub is not open for normal pint sales. It will be available at 11am open on Sunday for purchase to go as well as on draft.

Three variants for the Experience night on Friday in bottles. The one that you receive with you Friday party ticket is a what we are calling Experience Green (Double Barrel Apple Brandy Vanilla Imperial Stout- Bourbon Imperial Stout transferred to a single Apple brandy Cask and conditioned on 1.5#/bbl of Madagascar and Tahitian vanilla beans).
Then we have Experience Red (Double Barrel Ruby Port Imperial Stout- Oatmeal imperial stout aged in bourbon and transferred to a ruby Port barrel) and 2019 Brunch in hell (Imperial Stout aged in Old Forester barrels and transferred to a Woodford Reserve Barrel, conditioned on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon, maple syrup and coffee).
The second two will be available to purchase for the Experience party attendees on top of Green.

Hellshire IX is back to a straight forward BBA Imperial Stout. Bourbon chocolate bomd right now. Reminds me a lot of the early stages of Hell VII. Going to age out very nice.

Some really rad brewers and beer this year including some awesome additions from some rad friends including 4 Hands, Rowley Farmhouse Ale, Funk Factory, MikkellerSD, Garden Path and E9. Everyone else is the usual awesome NW barrel-aged producers bringing their best.

Excited for another awesome year of this fest and another beer that we are very excited to share. Haven't kept up in a while but I'll monitor the boards over the next week if there are any other questions.

    Cheers,
    Dan

    Dan -

Those two Experience variants sound incredibly creative. Lots of folks are doing interesting things with big stouts but those two are taking it to another level. Hope they taste as good as they sound.

Can you confirm whether Hellshire IX will show up in bottle shops in your distribution area? I am trying to put together a trade with somebody as it has been a long time want.

Ohh they do taste as good as they sound  beyond excited for how all the beers have turned out this year.

Beer will hit be sent to our distributors the week following Hellshire and should be available in Oregon and Washington soon after the fest. Oregon will see the most, but Washington is getting a good deal of the beer. 300 cases this year so plenty to go around.

I know this is the first year for the Hellshire variants but any chance of variant bottles/tap still being available early next week? I've got an annoyingly short trip to Eugene planned and trying to figure out where to go on my two free nights and how much space I need to save in my luggage. That said, I've liked the few regular Hellshires I've had so it's not like I'll be sad just picking up a couple bottles of that.

They've done variants before but I don't believe they were ever available outside of the ticketed Experience. Maybe in the taproom if for some reason they didn't sell out?

    ^ Exactly this.

I would also check around town at better taprooms as well (Bier Stein, 16 tons taphouse, Tap and Growler, Beergarden, etc.). While in the past the variants were only available at the pub/taphouse (bottles if you attended the Experience event, and on tap on release day), I could see that changing if they make enough (in fact, I think Oakshire sent a keg of the Especial to de Garde for their anniversary event some years back). Otherwise, your best bet is definitely to stop by the Oakshire pub/taphouse. You might luck out. :sunglasses:

    Good luck.

Variants are only available at the Experience night as stated above. Each variant was a single oak cask. There are between 13 and 15 cases of each and two 1/6bbls. One 1/6bbl of each will go on at the Experience night. A bottle of the one variant (Green) will go to each attendee of the Experience night as part of there ticket (100ish bottles leaving about 4 remaining cases) and they have the ability to purchase one bottle each of the other two variants if they so choose (remaining bottle inventory TBD based on purchasing.) Remaining bottles and 1/6bbl will go into our library for future events such as special festival pourings such as the mentioned de Garde anni party; or a random Tuesday beer release when I'm feeling frisky. Otherwise I'm drinking them....

Just wanted to say thanks for the heads up on going straight to the source to grab bottles. Ended up with a free afternoon last Sunday and decided to drive down to grab some. I got a bit panicked when I didn't see any signage advertising Hellshire for sale but just a quick conversation at the register put me back at ease.

I didn't have enough time to sit and enjoy a pour of anything but was able to grab a few bottles for the road and make a quick pit stop over at The Bier Stein for a few other out-of-my-market treasures. Thanks again to @John_M for pointing me towards all my Eugene needs!
