I just reviewed Bell's Expedition Stout (fresh, bottled two months ago). It reminded me of SN Narwhal only stronger and a bit less complex.

In both beers, I find a flavor that I am struggling to identify. I get it in the aroma and the taste. It reminds me of the typical "dark fruit" that comes up often, but I know it is more specific than that. I am reminded of fig, maybe cherry. It is very noticeable, and I enjoy it, so I want to be able to place it.

Anybody have any ideas on this? Is it licorice I am getting? I know this is a bit of a shot in the dark , bu any guidance is appreciated.

Licorice is not uncommon among big stouts. When in doubt, drink it again!
