Or if you can get it where you live or trade: any of the Fifty/Fifty Eclipse. Fantastic seasonally.

Founders Imperial (RIS) is the best stout. Also, it is more chocolate than coffee, which means you may have a better chance of liking it. I also really like GL Blackout and think it is more chocolate than coffee, also. You may have to wait until next fall, but try Bitches Brew when you get a chance.

North Coast's Old Rasputin is the Stout by which all other stouts are judged - nothing fancy added & priced well. If you're feeling audacious, you can add a splash or two of your favorite bourbon to the bottom of your glass - for a little bit more of a thrill ride.

If you like IPAs you have to try Sweetwater Happy Ending. It was crazy to me how hoppy that beer was. It might lead you in the right direction.
I've always loved stouts so for me they were an great beer to get into, but if you're a hop head it might be a good place to start

Ballast Point Victory at Sea Imperial Coffee Vanilla Porter. Not considered a stout, but very, very good stuff.

Good call, the Yeti series is exactly what I was thinking. They are pretty hoppy, so that should be a nice transition for someone who enjoys the IPA/DIPA.

    Yetis are great.

If you're an IPA guy, get Victory Storm King.

Furious game of catch up? How about a furious game of calm down?

Beer appreciation is not a race. Enjoy the fact that you haven't explored stouts. It means you have that much more to explore before you die

All the obvious choices are on the board. If you can still find it try Port Brewing's Santas Little Helper. I know it's Christmas themed but I really enjoyed it this year and thought it went down super smooth.
