Hello, here in Mexico there´s a new hype of hopped beers that have a guava and/or soursop character in aroma and taste. Do you know what hops they use?

    Thanks.

    Maybe Medusa hops?

“Medusa (4.8% alpha acids, oils not determined)

Medusa was bred in New Mexico from native American hops (most modern hops include American and European genetic material) and grown at CLS Farms in the Yakima Valley. Aromas include guava, citrus, and melon fruits.”

    I think that´s it! thanks!

I see there´s not a single brewing store here in Mexico that offers Medusa hops, I´ll research about importing some.

I think Mosiac has a Guava-passion fruit flavor.

FWIW, whenever I have homebrewed with Mosaic the dominant aroma/flavor was fruity (berry fruits) for my palate.

I should provide the disclaimer of: we all have our own unique palates and well perceive differing aromas/flavors.

    Cheers!

Look for Multi-Head as well, and I think Neo-Mexicanus. I believe they are all the same hop. My understanding is that the Neo-Mexicanus was picked up from the wild and was given the trade name of Multi-Head. Eventually when the official hop growers got involved it was given the name Medusa to replace Multi-Head. I could be wrong though.

    Justin,

Based upon the below linked article by Stan Hieronymus is does indeed appear that Medusa = Neomexicanus (as Sierra Nevada called that hop in their beer Harvest Wild Hop IPA).

    Cheers!

Thanks, can always count on you to find the pertinent links! And I am fairly certain that the name Medusa came from it being called Multi-Head. In fact, here are two old BA threads that connect them as well:

Those clever hop pushers know we can't resist good branding and marketing. Homebrewers got to try new hops with the cool names and fruity hype.

This doesn't sound like a comedy movie plot at all.
