Any type of sugar will increase your ABV actually

...which is why you should never throw away those priming packets from the kits even if you're kegging.

Precisely speaking this isn't true. Something like lactose sugar will only increase ABV if there are bugs that can eat it. In a clean fermentation, lactose will not contribute to ABV but instead to mouthfeel and slight (some people would say negligible) sweetness.

True, lactose will not increase ABV. Had forgotten about that one. I was more thinking of any type of sugar most people would buy, table sugar, turbinado, agave nectar, honey, DME/LME, stuff like that. Lactose is not used to increase ABV though as you correctly noted.

Good points.. I did the same thing.. I had some kits, and I had some all grain recipes years ago that my LHBS would include the sugar for free, even if I was kegging.

I had pounds of corn sugar.. Used them up in DIPA's as I went on to doing my own recipes.

    What's a BIPA?
    Black IPA
    Belgian IPA

    Brewers Best makes both.

If it's Belgian it already comes with Belgian Candi Sugar.
Adding more sugar probably not the best choice.

If it's Black do you really what to add white sugar?
    (pun intended).
