FWIW, the last couple of times I tried that on a weekday, I spent the best part of half an hour just trying to get out of the tunnel onto 93.

But parking at Canton - not to mention carrying cases back to your car - is, in fact, several hundred thousand times easier.

We're just getting into us Bostonians quibbling about which drives are more annoying now but....

If you're coming in during traffic time I would say to skip both Fort Point AND Canton and just get right on the Mass Pike and head west to Treehouse. Depending on the day and the whims of the gods traffic can vary quite a bit so you could play it by ear with googlemaps.

If it's not rush hour(s) Canton definitely has the added pluses that Jcorn mentioned though.

Haha, thanks for that info. I grew up in Chicagoland so I am no stranger to traffic, but, it was only really from like 3pm-6pm.

Safe to assume it's the same in Boston? Or is it more congested and just always kinda sucky?

Metro Boston is a MUCH smaller area than Chicago (I used to live out there) so you might find the actual distances you'll be in traffic less daunting. But it can move painfully slowly and there just aren't the options for alternate routes that you might be able to carve out in Chicago.

And the traffic on 128/95 (near Canton) will not necessarily be the same as the traffic near Fort Point as the former is sort of the outlying "tech corridor" and Fort Point is downtown, so it's hard to make blanket statements.

Both areas can idiosyncratically get congested at weird times (especially 128) but 3 to 6 or 4 to 7 are good rules of thumb.

ETA: to be clear, the Mass Pike trip out to Treehouse won't be a picnic at rush hour either. So if you do come in then you'll be in traffic wherever you go, it's just a question of whether you want to be making additional stops/detours.

Why would this dude want to make a 45-minute detour to Canton and deal with 128 when he could take the pike from the airport to the south Boston exit, live park near Trillium, get back on the pike, and continue west?

I agree, 2 times I went up to HF, 2 times had poor service and bad attitudes.

Personally, to to Rutland and start at hoppin moose, then up to Brandon to foley bros, then to middle bury for otter creek and drop in, the on to fiddle head and the rest of Burlington. A lot of great beers and lots of very nice folks to chat with.

Thanks, man. I love a post like this with some hidden gems!

We are looking at early flights arriving around 10am, so, I think I am just going to do what you said, thanks!

From the airport, Trillium in Boston is easy-peasy and way preferable to Canton... IF you can leave someone live-parked in the car. Despite everything that's been said about this over the years, double or triple parking on Congress Street is totally fraught with peril and I usually end up parking in the garage on Stillings Street - which is a pain in the ass if you're carrying more than one case. If you can leave someone in the car, though, the worst case is they have to move it and double back for you.

You lost me at "Don't go to Hill Farmstead"... "Go to Rutland and go to Hoppin' Moose".

I'm just gonna say that if anyone feels like they need to drive from Boston to Canton just because they don't want to carry a case of beer a couple blocks, it might be time to cut back on the booze calories anyway.

Go to Fort Point, parking isn't that bad, and while there may not be pours there, Row 34 is across the street, not to mention a half-dozen other good bars and restaurants within a couple blocks. It's a vibrant urban neighborhood; Canton is a gross office park in the suburbs. Spend a few hours in Fort Point, you can walk along the waterfront, have a nice lunch, a nice beer, a nice cup of coffee, etc. Pay a couple bucks for garage parking if you have to. It's a much better experience. And it's a more direct route to Tree House.

Yeah... but still go to Hill Farmstead.

Summer Street. The parking is on Summer Street. Then take the stairs.

    This one had me chuckling.

It's quite simple. If you want a lot of beer drive to canton and if you don't do as you suggest.

I can't imagine how much beer you'd possibly need to be buying to justify a hour-plus detour to Canton.

Also, I have to park in that area all the time for work and seriously, it's not that bad.

The time from FP to Canton obviously depends on the time of day. During the right time of day you can do it in 30mins. I don't typically buy in bulk but I always see people at Canton with cases which I always find weird.

Again, unless you're carrying more than a case.

Which probably isn't an issue for @Kraz since Trillium's just their first stop in a multi-day beerpalooza. But... it's still easier to live-park on Congress Street and step out the door and into your car.

Can you elaborate on that? Is it as straight forward as Fort Point has can limits and Canton doesn't (or they're much bigger?). I'm not looking to go bonkers and buy several cases at Trillium but I was envisioning a mixed case.

since you'll be with someone, just go to fort point. double park on congress street (or have your partner in crime drive around the block), go grab a mixed case and then hit the road to tree house. they're making this seem like a much bigger deal than it is!
