After a conversation on another forum. I started looking around to see if anything has been introduced into the Ohio legislators to change the ABV limit.

Currently Ohio is allowed to have no brews higher then 12%. I've found a bill introduced by the Representative from Lorain to change that from 12 to 21%.

Here is a link to read the bill on the Ohio senate site, and a map in case you don't know your district to see if your Representative is behind the bill, and if not contact them! I've also included the blog post that lead me to this if your interested

note: this isn't a plug for any of the mentioned websites, hosts, or owners. I simply want to see some higher ABV beers in this region.

The problem is that the state, including Rep. Ramos, hasn't set any sort of boundaries or made promises on the limits of the legislation introduced. Of course, if all the bill does is change the number 12 to 21, everyone in the industry will be in favor of it. But this bill will need support from Ohio's breweries to proceed and they need assurance that the bill won't restructure the taxes on beers from 12% down. We all know gov't takes every chance possible to squeeze us and that's the general fear right now. There's nothing stopping the state from changing the bill or tacking on lots of crap to it, including a progressive tax system that costs brewers more for producing their current lower ABV flagships.

Yeah I thought about that. I've already placed a call and sent an email to Rep.Ramos for more information. Hopefully I'll get some more details of this bill and the extent of his community outreach.
