Just wanted to give everyone an update. I have created a simple website that lists what we have received so far. As more come in I will update the list. We have not yet actually decided how we will divide up the beers for the auction, or how many individual baskets there will be. But when that is decided I will update that here, also. Please take a look and feel free to give me any suggestions or feedback. And remember - it's not too late to send us a few local beers! Thanks once again to those who have taken their time and money to donate!!

Thanks, man. That box you sent is definitely going to help big time! Every box has been outstanding, so I really think this is going to go very well!

I'm sure you and Brett (thedrizzle) could use a vacation. Come on down! That's also the weekend Jester King releases Fen Tao. So you could also hit the JK brewery and make it an epic trip!

As much as I would LOVE to go back to HOU, I'm pretty sure there's no way in hell it's happening... I was barely able to convince my wife to let me go down a day earlier than my client meeting when I went last time, and that trip the flight and hotel were company-paid...

Besides, as much as I loved HOU, I've gotta spread the love a bit and check out some other beer towns before I start repeating locations... Boston, Asheville, San Diego, Denver, Portlant, VT, MI, etc etc all need visiting too!

You should plan to go to EBF in boston next year. Best damn beer fest there is. I'll be driving up and have to go through PA...

If I'm not busy preparing my own road trip, swing through the Philly area and we'll grab a beer!

Absolutely. Been thinking about coming up to Monks. Then over to Pat's and/or Gino's.

Oh FFS, do not go to Pat's/Geno's. Seriously. Let someone from Philly (me, for example) show you a real cheesesteak instead of doing the tourist thing (unless you just want to visit the location for some photos, in which case enjoy your Kodak moment). I understand why it happens this way, and frankly when it's general waves of tourists, I'd prefer they leave the good places alone; but when it's someone I know (even just through the internet) it pains me to see them plan on one or both of those places to get the "Philly experience".

The only reason locals go to those places is if a) they live within 2 blocks and it's just that convenient, or b) it's 2 AM and everywhere else is closed. I can think of literally 10 cheesesteak places without even using my brain that I'd rather go than to that corner.

Monk's, on the other hand, is everything it's cracked up to be, and you should absolutely go there and I'll meet you if I can at all swing it; Tired Hands is neck and neck with Monk's on the "can't miss" scale, though there's a dozen different places in and around the city that you'd enjoy just as much as well. I might be biased, but Philly really is such a great town.

edit: Sorry not sorry for derailing the thread a bit; worst case scenario it's keeping you bumped

Just wanted to give everyone following this post an update. The auction is this coming weekend and just take a look at the selection we've received to be auctioned off! And I have a few more elite's coming in this week! The craft beer world is full of some damn fine people. I will also update here after the benefit to fill everyone in on how things went.

I want that 007! BTW, will we be able to bid on these baskets? I know I would!

I've been asked that several times and i wish there was a way. But as it's a live auction I just don't see how, unless you had someone there bidding for you. (which a few out of town people are planning to do, I think). I'm just kind of posting here to keep those of you following the auction updated. Looking back, this may have been even more beneficial to her had we gone with a raffle type of auction. But - the "Team" was really looking forward to the actual auction, and - to be quite honest - I never had any idea we would wind up with this much really world class beer. At last count we are closing in on 100 total bottles available! So many people (including yourself, I might add) have been amazingly generous!

You could take silent bids ahead of time for baskets. Say I wanted Basket #3, I could send you a 'bid' of $40; if the live auction does not reach $40, then I would get it. If it surpasses $40, then the live winner takes it for their winning bid.

edit: in general I also agree with the raffle idea; makes it much easier for us to participate (and also is likely to generate more money since you're not getting funds only from one person per basket).

That said, gotta keep the team happy, but maybe next time you can point out all the money the BAs would've donated for raffle tickets and they'll see things differently. You would probably want one "local-only" raffle basket though, just to make sure the locals don't get skunked because BA bought 10x as many tickets as they did

In talking with the OP I think he may have under estimated the generosity o lo this community while trying to appease his own community at the same time. It is a tricky thing to put these things together, especially when it is your first time. I know i raised over $7000 in three months doing one and the mission lif just raised over $1000 in like 2 weeks.

Hopefully the auction goes great, I'm sure it will, and awareness and funds are raised for this young woman.

Good luck OP and know this community is more than just beer drinkers. We are there for each other when we are needed.

Thanks, y'all for that advice. And Ray you are exactly right. I had no idea we would be anywhere near 100 bottles to auction when this started. I still think we will help this young lady and her family, but I do agree a raffle may have been more beneficial. Hopefully Kibby will get better soon and we won't need to do this again for her. But if she ever does need help again, I may very well consider something like that. And by the way, in a message to her and her family today I made it very well known about the kindness, prayers and well wishes from this group, and the craft beer world in general. I can't explain to you how appreciative they were. I have personally been a craft beer lover for only 3 years or so, but it's impressive what a tight group it really is. You said it perfect, Ray - this community is more than just beer drinkers. Thanks to all for your help.

And I'm meeting with the benefit team tomorrow and I'll bring up the idea of "pre-bid amounts". If that works for them I'll get back to y'all. Admittedly, that part of the auction is not up to me. I do know they requested cash only at the time of the auction. Perhaps they will consider waiving that.
