My last few batches have not been the appropriate level of carbonation (except the the ones that I have bottled from the keg via a bottle gun). I am bottling a Saison tomorrow that has been aging for about 3 months, so it is ready. I want to use DME to get some tighter bubbles (plus I think it yields a better head than corn sugar). How many oz of DME (LD Carlson Pilsen Light DME) for 4 gallons of Saison (bottled at about 70F) would you do? All the calculators I see for DME note 55%AA, 70%AA, 75%AA. I have no idea what LD Carlson Pilsen Light DME is, so maybe that is the problem... Thanks all! Trey
Just remember to give your bottles extra time if priming with DME. You can also do a combo of DME and Corn Sugar which won't take as long to reach full carbonation as just the DME by itself will.
Thanks man for that. I didn't have any corn sugar so used all DME. Used 5.3oz for 4 gallons. Hope that works!
I always prime with table sugar. I find it as effective as corn sugar and more effective than DME, and cheaper than both. I use the tastybrew priming calculator. http://www.tastybrew.com/calculators/priming.html
