Hey everyone, I am going to san fran in June. I was just wanting to know if I will be able to score some pliny while I am there. What are the chances? I am going with my gf's family and will not have a car. I have heard before of people finding pliny in grocery stores. My question is, where is the most universal store I could score pliny at? If not, where are some easy, not so out of the way liquor places to get pliny. This post may be useless bcuz i dont know exactly where im staying in san fran.

    Thanks.

Bottles sell pretty quickly but you can get lucky. Whole Foods seems to get it pretty often. Toronado usually sells bottles to go.

Of course, if you just want to try it on tap, go to Toronado, The Page, Lucky 13... a bunch of places have it.

Short trip across the bay to Oakland - Beer Revolution generally keeps it around.

If you keep saying "San Fran" I doubt you'll get anything good... it's SF or the city.

I'd say Beer Revolution or a nearby Whole Foods will be your best bet. Yes, Toronado may have it, but I never recommend going there because you may possibly be treated like shit if you say you're from out of town. I take that back, you'll be treated like shit no matter what. Especially if the OLD lady with saggy breasts who thinks it's okay to wear low-cut shirts is working. She's just the most awful/rude person In the business of serving that I've ever had to deal with (and I've frequented many Del Tacos and dive bars). Anywho... I'm sure you'll be successful at finding it if you call around. Not having a car could limit you, but luckily public transportation is ahead of the game over there. If all else fails, meet up with a friendly BA and take the hour drive up north to Russian River. It's an amazing experience, as it is one of the best brewpubs in the world. I say that with confidence. :sunglasses: Good luck in your search for Pliny!

Is Pliny that hard to find in SF? I have had a few different bars on tap and once wondered into a random liquor store in North Beach where they had a bunch of bottles.

This. So many people think because they didnt say frisco they are in the clear. This is not at all true. The only acceptable names are The City (we know it really isn't a city, but we call it that anyways) and San Francisco. SF is usually ok too.

And finding Pliny is difficult, it is everywhere at least once a week, but I can never tell what day it seems random. You kind of have to make a rotation around town or go to the source.

Any Whole Foods (except for the one on Ocean Ave down by SFSU), City Beer Store, Toronado, Ales Unlimited, Healthy Spirits, Plumpjack Wine & Spirits, The Jug Shop, and several other retail stores all get Pliny in every week. Your best bet is to try to get some early in the afternoon on a Wednesday.

    It's a city. Just a small one.

man y'all are prickly about that San Fran/Frisco thing - it comes up in every single "visiting SF!" thread. Which is all the time. I agree that it does sound a little foolish, but with all the silly condensed neighborhood names in The City And The Vicinity (SoMa, NoPa, FiDi, CoHo, NOSBe, etc.) I'm surprised it's so objectionable. I guess maybe SaFr would be better?

Saint Frank is also acceptable, but only if you are hella cool.

Transplants say NoPa while natives say Western Addition.

In Oakland, we call you Frisco whether you like it or not. Matter of fact, black San Franciscans (the few who still exist) call it Frisco or The Sco also, so it all comes down to which SF you come from (or don't).

Pliny delivers on Wednesday at most places and it can go very fast. Wholefoods is the grocery that carries it. Bev Mo does not as they got it yanked a few years back. Most of the area bigger bottle shops will have it.

But if you come all this way only for Pliny then you are missing a lot. Message me and I can get you some Pliny now to try. But when you get out this way, you should try more of the NorCal places. Here is one of my favorite links. Check out what you can not get and try them out here. This way, if you get into trading, you know what you like.

People also used to call it The Sucka Free City, The City that Knows How, Baghdad by the Bay and the Paris of the West. Doesn't mean any of those are appropriate now either.

    OP, PM'd.
