Looks like the ol' Herk is mixing it up stylewise. Glad to see they are adding some interesting beers, the more Baltic Porters out there the better. http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/dining/177908481.html?refer=y
Me too, glad to see they are catching up to the times in their own unique way rather than just trading their beers for IPAs, porters, etc.
I've always enjoyed the beer at Herkimer. Sky Pilot Keller Bier is awesome! Maybe they should bring back growlers as well. Whats the deal there?
I honestly like the vibe of the place more than I like the beer. Table shuffleboard is always a good time. I think their beers are so-so. I actually prefer their sister restaurant, Moto-I, since they have a pretty solid local beer list for reasonable prices. Hope their beer gets a bit more exciting.
The beer is average. The vibe is good. The bloody marys, with the sky pilot chaser and take home shaker pint, are outstanding. I go there for a hangover breakfast. If the beers take a turn for the more interesting, I'll be heading there for other things.
State law dictates that they can only see off premise from one location. When they opened Moto-I they chose to sell bottle of sake from Moto-I instead of continuing to sell growlers from the Herkimer. It sucks that they can't do both.
Do they make the Sake at Moto-I, or at the Herk? My understanding is if the equipment is on site, you can sell off sale
My understanding is that is not true. If you have equipment on site, you can sell off sale. The Fitgers that was going to open in MPLS was planning on selling growlers, because they would have been brewing on site.
So, um, do they sell bottles of sake at Moto i? Ive never heard of anyone who has bought one from then, but what do I know?
That's dumb enough that it makes sense that it is a state law. Still it is nice that the Herk is venturing away from just German style lagers, and that they are adding taps.
They don't sell growlers of sake they sell 750ml bottles. And yes, a growler of sake would make the livers of multiple men hurt.
