Hey guys, I haven't traded on here(not sure why) but actively trade elsewhere and I use these forums as a resource for reference pretty often. Anyway, I've been sitting on a bottle of Port Barrel Damon for a bit and I'm finally considering trading it. Can anyone give an idea of what it's worth? I know everything is worth what someone would trade for it and blah blah but I've heard of people trading it for anything from Backyard Rye/Vanilla Rye to DB Huna which is quite a gap. Thanka for any input.
I think it traded fairly high at first and then some reviews of it being awful got out and the value dropped. I think the consensus is that it has improved with time but I would guess that people who really wanted it already traded for it. That's not to say that it doesn't have any value, I would just be shocked if it traded for DB Huna.
I traded one for a CBS last year, but CBS had already fallen off a cliff so I dont know how much that helps.
Thanks for the responses. I've heard up and down reviews on it which is why I started thinking about trading it if I could get something I've been wanting for it. I posted this same question somewhere else and got flamed because I didn't want to trade it $4$ for 6 cans of heady so I appreciate the feedback.
You may have confused DB Damon, not Port Damon, for DBH. I haven't seen that trade done anywhere (granted that I'm not all-seeing). Port Damon was recently (3 months ago?) available for a day or 2 as a "vintage" sale. I had a few friends who picked it up. I have only had Damon and it was a let down. Some people said it's the strongest of the 3 so Damon > DB Damon > Port Damon. Opinions vary of course, but only Damon is on the Top 250 List (if you value some sort of statistical grading). Long prelude to say that I think shooting to trade it $4$ for similarly limited bottles like Huna '15, CW '16 or '17, maybe a Tired Hands bottle, or another beer that's hard for you to get that you can age makes a lot more sense than for IPAs.
That's only because Port Damon and DB Damon are retired. Retired beers don't show up on the Top 250, as far as I know. DB Damon rates 4.55, regular Damon rates 4.44. Though, even if Port Damon wasn't retired, and was eligible for the Top 250 list, it wouldn't make it anyway, as it "only" has a 4.25.
You are correct about those beers are retired and that is in fact how it works. I completely forgot about that and DB Damon was in fact on the Top 250 at one point and was retired. Thanks for the correction!
It's very funny that this question came up. My buddy has been hoarding a port damon since the day they came out thinking he would be able to trade it for a whale down the line. I tried telling him the hype has come down and that it doesn't trade that high. I ended up trading mine for a maple tripple. I convinced my buddy to trade his to me plus a backyard for a 14 Parabola, a 13 Supplication and a large amount of limited/shelf ba stouts and barleywines so he can have an instance cellar. I thought that was a fair offer. Hope that helps in some way.
