Hi, I'm new to this forum, and new to brewing in general. I just wanted to introduce myself, and ask you all, how old were you when you started brewing and what drew you to it?

I started when I was 22. I really like DIY stuff and The idea of making somthing that can be such an art is really appealing. I am by no means a good cook or biochemist but it is awesome to learn abot the brewing process.

    Welcome!

    Welcome to BA.

Got a kit for my 29th birthday last year, love it. I am drawn to it for a number of reasons, I love to cook and ferment things, it is cheaper than buying beer, you can do it with friends, you can make things that commercial breweries probably wouldn't dream of (mostly for economic reasons) and lastly, it is a very slow process and I need more things in my life that slow me down.

Also, there is a specific homebrewing forum that you should check out if you haven't done so already.

Welcome! I got started when I was 26. Got a kit for x-mas, wasn't satisfied with my first few batches but kept at it. I like beer and DIY so that drew me to it.

You'll learn a lot here. This is by far the best homebrewing forum on the web. I'd venture it's the most active too.

Started when I was 21 and I'm 26 now. Just seemed like a neat hobby. It has since taken over my life.

Welcome. You in all likelihood will become addicted to this hobby. I began brewing when I was 25 after first getting into craft beer and then being fortunate to observe a friend who homebrewed at that time. Fast forward 13 years later and here I am brewing all-grain, have a kegerator with 3 taps, and a temperature controlled chest freezer for fermenting lagers and ales in the warmer months.

Started when I was 19 cause the legislature raised the drinking age to 21 without consulting me. After I found that I could make better beer than my friends could scam from stores, I was hooked on the hobby. Been going about 13 years now (minus about a 3 year Katrina hiatus).

I'm 22 and started brewing last winter. I have only done 3 batches but I have learned tons on this forum. I was drawn to it because I love beer and I had to retire from football and I needed a hobby to pick up.

I started when I bought my first real (ie, not town) house at the age of 31. I did extract plus steeping grains for several years, then did partial mash with brew-in-a-bag technique for about 8-10 batches, then graduated to all grain. Unfortunately, my brewing opportunities have dropped significantly recently. I may only knock out 3-4 batches a year any more. So far this year, I'm in the middle of my third batch.

Started when I was 25, a little over 25 years ago, because I was a broke ski bum and couldn't afford any good beers (even for the time).

Hey hey, welcome to the forum. I just started browsing the homebrew section and gathering information. Ordering my starter kit this weekend. 22 years old.
Can't keep myself away from it. Love cooking, love quality things, and love getting my hands involved in those things I enjoy. No way I couldn't start brewing.

    I was "just a smidge" past 21

Current effort is probably going to be a wheat beer with some elderberries this weekend. Or something. I have some elderberries and wish to use them in a beer, and want to brew this weekend, so we'll see what happens... :sunglasses:

Started at 29. First beer was a Barleywine that climbed to 11.0 ABV. Loved it. Now I don't brew enough. I try to live by the BJCP standards. Did you go to NHBC in Bellevue?

Started brewing when I was 28ish as I had tried some kit beers that were as good as the crap commercial I was drinking at the time... I quickly progressed to all-grain brewing and drinking infinitely better beers (both home & commercial). Just keep learning.

Has anyone told you yet to read all of http://www.howtobrew.com yet? That will help you make better beer.
