in the high point Nc area for a wedding and looking for craft to consume and potentially take home. Suggestions welcomed
The Brewers Kettle in High Point (consume on premise and take home). Liberty Steakhouse Brewery in High Point (consume on premise). Potent Potables in Jamestown (consume on premise and take home).
Spent many a nights at liberty back in the day. Wife's a low-dot native. I'll check out Brewers kettle at least. Thank ya sir!
In town, The Brewer's Kettle is probably your best bet. Potent Potables in Jamestown (little town between High Point and Greensboro, maybe a 10-15 minute drive from downtown High Point) is also a great stop. PoPo is pretty active on their Beermenus.com account if you want to do some research beforehand and make a gameplan. Both places have beer on tap, so you can stop by for a pint or two, or just grab one to drink while you're browsing. Liberty Steakhouse has the only brewery in High Point. I've never been, so I can't really comment about the quality. If you don't mind driving, Foothills in Winston-Salem is worth a trip. As far as what to look for... (I'm not sure what does or doesn't get distributed to SC) Omega Point - Old Hickory: Barrel-Aged Barleywine, currently the top beer on BA from NC. Some bottles still hanging around Greensboro; not sure if it is still on shelves in High Point. St. Benedict's Breakfast Dubbel - Haw River Hop, Drop, & Roll IPA - NoDa: Can be awesome when fresh Jade IPA, IPA of the Month - Foothills Wicked Weed sours. Oblivion, Serenity, Genesis, Recurrant, La Bonte might be on shelves now.
I went to college in High Point so I spent many nights at Liberty. I think their beer is solid. Not the best in the world, but nice. We always drink Blackberry Wheat and Deep River Wheat. Get a growler of something to go. I was around when Brewers Kettle first opened and the owner is awesome. I think they've grown a lot over the past few years, so he did something right! Definitely check them out. If you have time, take a drive to Greensboro and go to Bestway. It's probably a 15 minute drive, maybe more with some traffic. You can go in the opposite direction and head to Winston-Salem (about 30 minutes) and stop in at Stella Brew.
If you have time, drive to Greensboro to "The Corner" at Walker Ave and Elam Ave. Have lunch at Sticks and Stones and head across the street to Bestway for your weekend needs. Have fun!
Liberty makes some really nice brews. Occasionally they'll brew something new that's lacking in some way or fashion. However, on other occasions, some of their brews are really damn good. Their Oktoberfest does not get much love but it is by far their best seasonal and possibly their best brew overall. Obviously you won't get any but when it does some in September, it's usually gone within a week or 2.
Was quite impressed by Potent Potables by the way. Picked up a VERY reasonably priced 4pk of Plead the Fifth, a few bombers of good stuff and a Sexual Chocolate Teku that was collecting dust. Great little shop.
Check out Stella Brew on Hawthorne in Winston Salem. Wicked Weed Sours and they will sell you growlers of Freak of Nature, and you can get growlers of Jade IPA at Foothills.
