According to SeekABrew.com all of those breweries are available in New Jersey. What's wrong with you? Go out and buy them!

Honestly...most of them. Whether it's movies, literature, or in this case beer, I feel like the more I get into something - the more embarrassed I am over all the stuff I've never been able to consume.

Of the one's that I'm interested in (because I have no interest whatsoever even for the best regarded stouts, porters and black lagers):

    Pliny
    Heady
    Westy 12
    Pseudo Sue
Everything Cantillon, Drie Fontainen and Boon.

Come to think of it, I haven't had many of the classics. For the most part, I'm still sampling within my Midwest bubble.

Tried all I can get locally, but I'm sure I missed a few that needed trading. Not for lack of trying, though.

I'm no whale hunter but I wouldn't mind trying Pliny and Heady. I've had pretty much all the European classics, save for a few Belgian sour/lambic types, which I don't care for anyway.

Pliny, Dust, Westy everything, Sucuba, Parabola and Abraxas. I guess I am waiting a few years before I regard Mexican Cake, HF or Toppling Goliath items as "classics". Although I haven't had them yet, I have a few classics on hand that I've yet to pop open like Korbinian, Event Horizon and BA'd Old Raspy.

I've been able to try via travel or trade most of the stuff that I was interested in from the US. I'll include other hard to get brews from Europe, etc. I need to branch out.

I'm sure the crowd at New Beer Sunday would love to hear everyone's thoughts on some of these (if they are easy for you to acquire ). I'll take a look at the Beers of Fame, myself, and see if there are any that will work for me. Hope to see you there. Cheers!

What will be interesting to me, is what the difference between the definition of "classic" is depending on when you first began drinking craft beer.

For example, does anyone who started drinking craft within, say the last five years, think Malsala Mama IPA is a classic?

I WANT WESTY XII SO BADLY!!!!!

Is it possible to ever obtain in the states without trading? What are some of the avenues to go and find said beer? I know they released some bottles to the states a few years ago but those are all looooong gone. Even traveled to Belgium but was unable to get an appointment with the Monks. From what I've been told, St. Bernardus XII is as close as it gets to Westy XII, and I do love me some St. Bernardus XII.

Heady and Pliny. I've been trying to get a Vermont trip going so I can get it. And hoping my future brother-in-law will send some Pliny from Cali.

A fair number of the higher gravity Belgians -- St. Bernardus 12, a bunch of stuff from Unibroue, Rochefort 6/8, Gulden Draak, etc. For a while, I just flat didn't like some of the styles (quad,BSDA, etc.), and while I've opened up a bit to them lately, it's still just not that often I come home from work and want to break into a 10%+ beer. (Same reason I have bottles of BCBS, etc. turding up my fridge. I got them thinking, "Oh, these'll be great to have around for those days when I want something bigger," but then those days never arrive. Go figure:slight_smile:)
